cannot sell to vendor

i recently killed Belethor in a fit of rage at how he talks to customers

 

ysolda has now taken over the running of his shop.

 

now when ever i talk to her in the shop and select the option to buy and sell, the trading window pops up but she has no inventory and im not alowed to sell anything to her, she has 1700 gold available for sales

 

is there anyway i can make it so she can buy and sell with me?

Well, I didn't kill Belethor but he was acting the same way Ysolda is for you. You could initiate the vendor UI but there was no inventory, despite his vendor chest being properly supplied, and you couldn't sell to him either. It was as if he was configured to not accept any type of item.

 

He had been working up until recently and this is with a brand-new game so I haven't the foggiest idea why this started. He was also wandering around in the middle of the day rather than being at his shop. He was definitely bugged.

 

Reviewing all my mods with tes5edit I could confirm that nothing was altering anything to do with Belethor or his shop.. The only thing I could possible think of was his vendor chest was also listed as the vendor chest for the Bannered Mare faction. Not the Bannered Mare services faction, just the general faction that includes all the patrons. Generally, these factions do not have the vendor flag even set so this was probably not intentional. Trying to edit it out didn't accomplish anything though it's possible the damage was already baked into the savegame.

 

What I ended up doing was basically whipping up a quick mod that duplicated Belethor, his services faction, and the vendor chest. I also removed all but his selling package so that Belethor 2.0 would never leave the shop. Then I just disabled the original Belethor via the console once I confirmed that the new one was working properly.

 

So far so good, which basically tells me that Belethor has got some sort of bug in the works but I'm clueless as to what.
