Guest
Pretty sure I read on Blues News that only 4% of PC games actually make a profit. These latest mainstream gaming attempts and the push towards "casual gamers" is a knee jerk reaction from the industry in an attempt to increase that number. More than likely it will fail, the industry will collapse to a degree, and you'll see the rise of indie games once more. Rinse, repeat, the cycle continues. I'd be genuinely interested as to the source of that number as frankly I find it very hard to believe that theres a company on this planet, no less an entire industry, that would invest millions of dollars a year in products that will fail 96% of the time. Also I'd hardly call the rise of casual games "kneejerk", with games like the Sims still churning out sequels and expansions and Popcap making millions on games that cost a few thousand dollars to make of course theres going to be a shift in the target of many games. I'm just genuinely surprised this didn't happen sooner, look at any other entertainment industry for gods sake. I honestly don't have numbers to back this up but really which do you think sells better, Hasbro's Monopoly and its spin offs or Games Workshop's Warhammer 40000 table top game and its spin offs (I'll be surprised if anyone can even name a few of the ones that weren't video games). Unfortunately the harsh reality of the world is that most people are not looking for something incredibly complex and deep in their entertainment and the games your snubbing while perhaps not your personal fancy are not bad games and are not whats "killing" the industry but are whats keeping it alive. That said ya deus ex 3 will probably suck.
