mmreads
Hello,I'm a noob modder installing the CS. The README has no info on the installation portion. They just say "use the InstallShield". And after looking around for the last 3 or 4 hours, I found this forum which seems the most current and active. The old Wiki page (http://cs.elderscrolls.com/) has no info, and I couldn't find anything in the http://tesalliance.org/forums/. Also skimmed through Steam. This stuff may be out there, but not easy to find. There are many questions: What exactly is being installed (list of files) to where? Is this going to make any changes to my Oblivion installation Data folder? Note: Here's what I could find but I think there's was one or two more files, maybe? Normally this stuff should be in the README: Oblivion\CSReadme.txt Oblivion\TESConstructionSet.exe Oblivion\lex Oblivion\Data\LSData Where does it need to be in relation to Oblivion.exe? Note: From what I've read it has to be in the same folder as Oblivion.exe. Is that true? Does it make any registry changes? Will it appropriately install to anywhere Oblivion/Oblivion.exe is? Note: There's a message about "Oblivion is not installed on this computer. Continue?" which is a terrible message since it should have said "Can not find Oblivion in the default location. Change location?". It seems to have installed but I haven't tried running it yet. Just hoping to get some pointers before I get too far past the install.Thank you! VencGanence
You are supposed to install the CS in Oblivion/ not Oblivion/Data/, and it's an old program. It's prone to crashing without the Construction Set Extender, which greatly reduces the risk of crashing and makes the whole thing easier to use. Once the CS is dropped in the game folder, you can just run the .exe and that's it. May be slow, but that's 32-bit programs from '06 for you. The Construction Set Extender has a ReadMe for installation instructions. Even then, it's a bit short and took me a while to get properly working. It should be a short install process, hence the short instructions, but if something goes wrong (which it did for me) then it's too short to offer much help. The problem was both the CS and OBSE_loader.exe need permanent admin privileges, and then you launch through the CSE.bat instead of the CS's .exe. I had the install right, but when launching CSE.bat a console window would flash and nothing would happen. It's supposed to log a crash report if it failed, but it didn't, so I thought it was working until I tried to use some OBSE functionality. You set a .exe's admin privileges under file Properties > Compatibility > Run This Program As An Administrator. CSE will refuse to start if Oblivion is installed the Program(x86) directory because of how zealous Windows' security is there.
