Fallout3, review for someone who's addicted to the serie

Little bit of background for me before I can talk about the game.

I bough Fallout 1 back in 98 or something and enjoyed the game over popular RPG games such as "Diablo" or other genre games such as "Medal of Honor" (But I did play those other games quite often)

Fallout 2 I bough off a buddy in 2004 or something and enjoyed it very much.

I pre-ordered Fallout 3 a month before it was out and beat the main quest within the first week since I got the game.

(Summarizing all that; I am a fallout series maniac)

Fallout 3 I have a lot of disappointment and things I like.

Things I liked:

1. I was almost angry that you can't pop off your enemy's head in oblivion now fallout 3 covers that part.

2. It was quite enjoyable overall. The playtime was long too.

3. From 2D old style RPG to 1st person RPG. That is one heck of an improvement.

Things I disliked:

1. Okay.. Fallout 1 and 2, you travel almost quarter of USA and get into random encounters. Fallout3, One state?

It must've taken years to make DC into a wasteland but if they at least could repeat the building sequence and make more cities and have bigger overall map, it could make the game more enjoyable

2. Story, Fallout 1 fighting super mutants. Fallout 2 fighting enclaves. Fallout 3 fighting super mutants and the enclaves.

C'mon that's getting old

It's a combination of F1 and F2 main story

F1 is about finding waterchip, F2 is finding GECK

F3 is finding GECK to use purify water.

Boy... that's getting old

3. I miss the friggin combat comments and taunts

Those who played fallout 2 would know what I mean.

4. I get that VATS immitate the role playing sequence from previous games, but what happened to:

-moving in combat as a role playing sequence, I am saying why can't i withdrawl using VATS

-Why is my character teleporting for melee attacks when I'm too far to hit the target

-Why take out the "groin" and "eyes" attack parts?

-In F2, usually when you or your enemy gets hit in the leg or groin hard, you'd drop to the ground.

5. Weapon and supplies, how limited they are and their price

well now, the game just turned from waste survival to waste action game

a 10mm gun used to be 400 caps compared to 5 or 10 caps jerkey

now 10mm gun is about 200 caps compared to 6 or 10 caps food

6. Weapon Variation

I don't think I need to expand on that

Spears? Thrwoing knives? light machine guns? Dynamite?

7. Ammo Variation!!

different types of ammo and different damage and different affects?

8. F1 a nd F2, there is no essential NPC at all.

Can't kill main quest characters and doctors

9.Hacking and Lockpicking

if you kept doing and reloading in F2 you could eventually unlock or hack any doors or computers with only 20 or 30 skill points.

10.Weapons repair

Why do weapons need constant repair? I think we could utilize the metal parts and cleaning kit etc and get rid of you being able to see how damaged your gun is,

Also what happened to weapons breaking and you 'critically missing' and dropping yoru ammio or the gun?

11. custom weapons?

I don't think so.

12. Radio

my god know how annoying it is to listen to 10 songs about 10 million times

Must admit, Like the idea though

13. Fast travel

It should have random encounters and just like F1 and F2, should take time to fast travel

and also show your track.

You should also be able to fast travel through unknown environment.

The fast travel in the game at the time is a rip-off from oblivion

14. Karma and Perks.

perks in f3, are lame, there I said it, it's lame.

Karma(perks) I don't know what happend to (slaver) or child killer perks

and karma system that you are a vilian from one city and idolized at another city.

15. Mutation,

It was interesting to be able to have 6 toes and in emergency, eat it in fallout 2.

16. Enemy Variation!!

Where's my alien, poisonous attacking tree, geckos etc.

17. How easy the game is!

F1, you can meet super mutant when you are level 1 and get torn apart in first 10 minutes play

F3, possibility to die is zero through out the entire game if you use your stimpack and resupply (and supply lasts so much somehow) them everytime you hit a town, oh I almost forgot. Sleeping in the Super Mutants' trench..

hm... that's realistic? if your character wakes up half eaten by a super mutant

Overall:

F3 is a bit of disappointment but I can understand the effort and how hard it is to plug in 2001 2D system into 2008 first person system.

(Just like transition from the game SWAT 2 to SWAT 3)

One thing I'm hugely disappoint is the story. THAT WAS THE MOST LAZIEST WAY TO CREATE A PLOT.

Plug in F1 and F2 together and stuff characters into it oh yeah and also fallout tactics, let those BOS come in and take the pentagon.

I was hoping that they keep the weapons and monsters and create a new story

Instead they combined old stories and picked a few monsters from past games and stuff them in with new robots.

I agree, this is a great game... Until you beat the game... I beat the game after 22 or 25 hours and the plot is horrible, the ending is probably the worst Bethesda has written down... It is illogical, tries to make you a hero, a lot of endings bla bla??? I remember when you beat fallout 2 the game would tell you about all the cities you explored and the thing you accomplished there... I always help vault city and ghoultown(was it ghoultown??) so that ghouls and vault city would work together and such... But I used to hate that woman overseer in vault city :) I remember tearing her eyes out...

so all in all it is a good game I have to admit... but after fallout 1 and 2, this game is not that great, it does not have depth... Feels a bit shallow...

I think they could save this plot with an expansion pack could use the same system but aiding it with some of the finest mods on this forum.

Cross-Repair

Robco Certified

Increased radiation

There are many more mods that I do use that are excellent.

I think they should at least make those 3 mods into an official patch.

After fixing up a bit of course.

Anyways

I think I might start a poll

how many of us fans definately want the system (hopefully upgraded)

with the storyline from Fallout 2 but playing as a different character?

[My idea could be an enclave soldier(or a pilot since the F3 story says Vertibirds flew over to DC) who survived (apparentely) the self destruction of enclave isle then deserting the enclave then so on.]

What happened to the infamous "over three hundred" endings? :D Bethesda has fooled us I guess... Since whatever you do, it does not have any impact on the end video, only the free slaves taking the memorial building, I dont think there is really that much deep endings... At least fallout 2 has the courtesy to tell us what the heck happened to each settlement in the end :D

was it ghoultown??

gecko i believe

and that was part of the fun, watching all of fallout 2's alternate endings

i wanted to know that because

i sped up harolds growth the wasteland was once again green with trees

or how good the wasteland was when

i killed every slaver piece of crap in paradise falls

but no

so we will hope that any expansion will improve the game, otherwise we will have to wait for the next fallout I guess... What a shame...

Hey did anyone played the original interplay's fallout III demo? It should still be on gamespot.com... I would like to give it a try but if it's even a bit better from this fallout III I will never be able to play Bethesda's Fallout :(

yep

I tried the Black Isle Fallout 3

It's very identical to Fallout Tactics with

more diologues and an attempt for 3D

gameplay.

I really hope

that the fallout 4 will not put another magical survival of the enclaves

they are done.... I know they are evil representing a corrupt government

and the Master Race from WW2 History

That’s because it was made for console gamers too, the games been dumbbed down for console gamers, they have the attention span of a gold fish.
