Tommo120
I was just wondering if anyone had tried to get the Oblivion construction set working with fallout 3? I mean, they are the same engine and have mostly the same game play mechanics, so i would have assumed that this could work. I would try this myself but i am not familiar with the Oblivion construction set.
SpeedyB64
The oblivion cs is not open source and would be nearly impossible to modify, I'm not saying it is impossible I don't know enough about programming to give you a definitive answer but I know enough to know that the game engine has been modified extensively and that the cs would have to be modified extensively as well. We will just have to hope Bethsoft realizes that mods are what keep their games popular for so long and release a cs.
Tommo120
I wasn't suggesting modifying the CS, just pointing it to the Fallout 3 files instead. The CS installer is only about 7 MB which leads me to believe that the CS loads all of the engine files etc. from Oblivion itself. If this is true then surely when pointed towards Fallout 3 it would just load the new engine files. Unless, of course, it has not been designed to handle the newer engine. Oh I don't know, I just thought that it may have been possible to open the Fallout 3 resources in the CS as it is mostly in the same format, isn't it? But, anyway, if it hasn't already been tried, it could be worth a shot. You don't know until you try, right?
silerfire
Give it a shot and let us know.
Tommo120
Give it a shot and let us know. I would but like i said, i am very unfamiliar with how the CS works. If someone with a great understanding of how it works could try then maybe we might get some results.
SpeedyB64
The oblivion cs's interface is not compatible the cs will look at the esm,s version number (or something like that) and not recognize it as supported if you got past this it would probably crash or something. For example the windows for editing weapons or anything would not be compatible and cause errors also fallout uses newer shaders and the game's base programming is different and the cs will not be able to read it. the cs's interface and rendering engine is built into the cs. The TES CS may only be 7 megs but you'd be surprised how much stuff can fit in 7 megs (consider that 7 megs is 7,000,000 bites My oldest hard drive is only 20 megs and it ran an entire operating system and programs plus data storage) If you did some serious hacking maybe you could get it to open scrips and maybe static items but it would be simpler to create a program from scratch (some people are likely working on that ;) beacuse scripting is tough without a cs)Just wait tools will improve. ComicKaze
The short answer is that it crashes if you try to load Fallout 3 esm or esps
