Poolar
See this thread ->http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/456889-skyrim-complete-pc-crashes/page__st__1530 If the problem pops back up, you can join the rest of us in getting zero support to fix it. ^^This is very interesting I don't know why I haven't come across this one yet. sounds a lot like my issue, but for me it doesn't crash to a black screen but rather freezes and still displays the image. Poolar
Fresh Install of windows did not work, Looks like I'll need a new card. I might try a go with an Nvidia 670-680 or something along those lines. suggestions are welcome. I'll do some test to try and make sure its not some PSU failure as mentioned by Ginny. davycrockett
STOP USING THAT CARD WITH THAT BOARD RIGHT NOW ! well if you havn't already figured it out its simply a case of incompatible hardware you mobo has PCI 2.0 expansion slot your GPU is listed as a PCI 2.1 compatible card if it was the other way around you would have backwards compatibility ie a 2.1 board and a 2.0 card will run but not like you are doing this is VERY BAD its my understanding that the voltages carried by the varying revisions of the PCI interface differ greatly and has the potential to seriously harm your machine . bben46
I have also seen a background program, cause a freeze - In my case it was Skype - It didn't like my sound card - most of the time the Skype worked, but often when some other program was already running and Skype tried to do something - the computer would freeze. One of the other programs it froze on was Oblivion. I tried running the game with Skype disabled and no freeze. Re-enabled and it froze after about 20 minutes. Skype also froze the computer on boot when I was using the fiber optic output from my card to feed a 5.1 (surround sound) audio system. It would boot all the way until Skype started, then freeze. Disable Skype - worked fine. Skypes reply - Skype is compatible with your sound card (Turtle Beach Montego) and does not cause that problem. There may be a problem with your audio component (Fiber optic?) or audio card. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/charonn0/ohgeez-1.gifMy solution - remove Skype - no freeze for the last 6 months. 5.1 audio works.

Most mother boards Ive seen have 2.0 or 3.0 slots. The Card has been running fine for over a year. and the next card I'm getting is listed with 3.0 PCI and again all Info suggests it will be compatible with a 2.0 slot. Poolar
Bought a new XFX 7970 and everything is running great. Gained about 15-20 Fps in some areas too. Funny thing is Catalyst has a driver Issue with the 7900's that cause shadows to disappear on Ultra Settings That doesn't recognize 4096 as a Resolution with iShadowMapResolution In the ini. But it looks like they will address it in patch 12.11. Might try the beta to confirm. In the meantime my system can handle them at 8192. http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst1211betadriver.aspx "Resolves the Skyrim lighting issue (missing a lighting pass) for the AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series" Thanks for the tips, I think we can put this behind us now. :)
