Methods of merging mods

What's the best way to merge conflicting esps now? Let's say I've got one mod that changes the outfits for NPCs and another mod that is changing the faces. Is there a utility that can merge these together without wiping out one or the other?

I've tried tes5edit and while it seems capable of creating a merge patch it still will only take changes from one mod or the other when it comes to individual records. Is there a way to create a filter for tes5edit to be able to set affinity on subsections of a record?

ANY help would be appreciated!

if you highlight all the records in one and click 'deep copy as override into..' it'll copy most stuff into another mod.

Wouldn't that just end up overwriting the entire record though?

In the case of the NPC's my goal is to retain the geometry fields while only overwriting the things like outfit or inventory.

If you load up both in TES5Edit, I think you should be able to drag the individual face geometry changes into the mod that changes the outfit. Don't try to create an automatic merged patch, rather locate the actor you're interested in so that you can see all his/her data from each of the mods in the main window, and then you can drag any given number that is different from one mod to the other.

You'd probably also then need to move the generated face meshes and textures from their current location in a folder named for the face mod to a folder named based on the outift mod, so that they'll be picked up when the outfit mod loads. After that, you shouldn't need the face mod at all.

Yes, I did have moderate success doing just that, however the two mods I'm planning on merging touch damn near every NPC so it's going to be a huge pain doing it one by one.

I'll probably just go through the one that's changing the NPC gear and pick and choose which ones to copy over to the face mod since it for sure redoes every NPC.

Oh, that brings up another question but I'll post that separately to keep things clean.

Thanks for the input!
