Proper conversion of esp to esm and back?

Here I am, fairly new to nodding. Hoping I can get some clarification on using another plugin as a master file.

My first project was to create myself and my family in a cozy little house on the lake shore. All of that went smoothly; I had little to no trouble making the actors (followers and even a Bard), the home itself, and successfully set AI packages to get them to do what I want. All good so far.

Here's where I'm struggling. Now I'm trying to take the next step to change some hair on the women. I was able to set the esp "KS Hairdos" to be used as a master in the creation kit by using sseedit and changing the flag to esm. That let me load it up in CK and use its resources. Thought it was all good.

When I tried to revert the esm I made from KS Hairdos back to esp, vortex no longer deploys the mod I created, because of missing master dependency. If I leave the master AND plugin (of KS hairdos), everything works fine but I feel like that's going to cause future issues. I've tried several different methods mentioned on forums, but results remain the same: either vortex won't deploy my plugin, or I get reverted back to vanilla default hair.

Ultimately my question is, what is the "proper" way to do this? I appreciate any help in advance.

Thanks,

Chew

Found my solution. I was going about it all wrong. If this helps anyone in the future, I read the written tutorial here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30041?tab=files

For the simple hair replacement I wanted to do, only a small portion applies. Regardless, my thanks goes to the author for a great written tutorial. Endorsement and kudos given!
