Xaranth
So in the next version of Project Hideaway, I'm introducing a fairly complex system: a Portable Teleporter. I've written out direction which I'm going to place into a note that's added to the player the first time he or she accesses the system. But while it's perfectly clear to me, I'm well aware that I designed the bloody thing, so of course I know how it works, and my written directions might be lacking. So I'm asking ya'll to give it a read and let me know if I'm being suitably obvious about how it all works. "Using the DARC Portable Teleportation System The DARC Portable Teleportation System consists of a Teleporter located within the DARC: Project Hideaway, and a Man-portable Field Teleportation Unit (FTU). The FTU can be carried to any location by an operative and then deployed, allowing instant transportation between Project Hideaway and the location of the deployed teleporter. The Field Unit contains a limited amount of charge, a maximum of thirty Charge Units (CU). Deploying the FTU will consume one CU. Transporting a single person requires two CUs, with an additional CU for every hundred pounds of carried gear. While deployed, the FTU will drain charge at the rate of one charge unit (CU) per six hours. The Field Unit can be recharged in the field with Microfusion Cells, Energy Cells, Electron Charge Packs, or Fission Batteries. The Field Unit can also be recharged at Project Hideaway. When placed in the FTU Charging Station, the Field Unit will recharge at a rate of one CU every two hours. A Fission Battery will provide the FTU with three CUs. Four Microfusion Cells, eight Energy Cells, or sixteen Electron Charge Packs will provide the FTU with one CU. In the event that the FTU cannot be recovered from the site of deployment, an operator may choose to do an Emergency Recall of the FTU from the Teleportation Chamber within Project Hideaway. An Emergency Recall requires forty CUs, and thus will completely drain the FTU, as well as burning out its capacitors. After an emergency recall, the FTU must be repaired and fully recharged before it can be deployed again. As a safety precaution, while the FTU is deployed, Project Hideaway will be sealed from the outside world, leaving the Teleportation System the sole means of entrance and egress." Any insights will be appreciated. Edited November 28, 2012 by Xaranth
Quetzlsacatanango
It's clear... it just doesn't sound very fun.Way too complex. But then I am a simple man.Sorry but you asked for opinions :)

It would make my life much easier... But I can't help but think that would be a little too... Convenient. If you could RTB anytime you wanted, from anywhere, with no travel time? I'd have to change the category to Cheats and God Items. :teehee:

But all of the accounting with the cells and whatnot makes my eyes cross (not because I cannot do the math, but because why do I want to? I want to teleport not bring out the calculator). You could make it simpler and just say it costs one kind of ammo and make it a fixed rate like a weapon; however many per trip regardless of who/what/how much travels. It is your technology, after all. You get to create its powers. Or maybe give it charge that lasts over time or x number of trips and then it has to go home to the docking station (this is something everyone can relate to as most of us have cell phones). Actually... I like. And not just because it makes building the system easier (It doesn't, much). But it IS overcomplicated, and I can understand that now that it's been pointed out to me. Okay. New rules. 5 CUs max, one CU per RTB, recharge in the field with fission bats, and a Recall drains and destroys. No complex accounting needed, you can do it on your fingers. There's a lesson in this. I tend to overcomplicate things.
