How to place an object

Hi everybody,

I feel my question must be totally stupid, but I would like to know if it's possible to place (delicately) an object on an other, like -for example- put one of my guns on a table or a book on a shelf.

I'm asking this question 'cause we can do it in Oblivion and that would be fine if its could be possible (to customize interior home).
