Changing character appearance

Happened when my race got changed after a quest and I used the console to change it and my appearance back, If you changed your race and it didn't happen to you the game just hates me lol. Tried it with mods and with them all uninstalled and it hit me both times who knows. Might still be good to save before attempting it though just incase.

Just checked it, you're completely right. Huh! That's really weird.

In the broken part of the Rivet City-ship, there are a guy who can change your apperance for free. You can either swim in (very hard), or enter the locked door at the end of the wooden bridge (hope you understand where i mean).

Anyone noticed how the showracemenu appearance of your character is slightly skewed from the in-game appearance, and not just textures, the actual shape and structure is off. It's as if the showracemenu was allowing you to change what one of your character's parents looked like.

In GECK you can customize an NPC's look and it'll come out spot-on in-game (maybe slight texture variation due to lighting), but I can't seem to find the alternate "parent" face that fallout combines with my showracemenu "parent" to make my in-game character. I assume that if I could find it I could set it the same as my showracemenu settings and the end result would match what I want in-game.

I've tried altering "playerfemale" (my character in question is a caucasian female) within GECK, but that didn't seem to affect anything. :( I prefer the control that GECK affords when altering the face. So it'd be great to be able to adjust my character from within GECK.

Just had a thought, does anyone know where GECK hides the showracemenu 'preset' heads? It would be great to just alter those settings and then select the new custom 'preset' head in showracemenu.

Or does anyone know a way to alter the playercharacter facegen settings on a savegame?

I'm posting from a mobile right now, but I'll add some screen shots later for reference. Thanks.

i haven`t noticed the huge difference of appearance before - just slightly... (the postet pics do show me abnormal deformation)

sadly i dont know anything about solving the problem...

what i want to know is:

Is it possible to lighten up the char-editing/appearance-screen? its way to dark and flickery for me, i dont see much when i build my char at the beginning... (setting brightness in options doesnt help...)

You could install the 'My personal Vault' mod,it has a book that lets you change your face..it works like when you are born in the Vault..it also has a book to change your hair style..

Works brilliantly and you can change your appearance whenever you want.

And its bug-free,basically its just the same console command but it seems to work better, and you dont have to savegame.I've never lost items/skills or anything using it.If you dont like the change just reload and try again..or change it just for the moment,it lets you play around.

The guy in Rivet is expensive and hard to get to,you have to fight your way past some mirelurks and swim so you get some radiation..way too expensive taking everything into account, and even worse if you dont get the desired result...with the book you can experiment..its free.
