How to change name in 'load character' list?

Hi there,

Quick question!

Obviously, in Skyrim Special Edition - save files are organised in game by character.

Now, if rename a character in game (using showracemenu for example), and then save the game - when I open up Skyrim, and click 'load', and see the list of my character's names, I see the original name - not the changed one.

This is pretty hard to explain! But I hope that makes sense, is there a way to change the name used in the 'load character' list? - so that my character's name in that list matches the new changed one in-game?

I don't know for sure, but off the top of my head... no, I think when you assign the original name, it afixes to your player, regardless of any racemenu "renaming" that you might engage in along the way.

You could always manually rename a save file, but once save or autosave is encountered, voila, you're back to the appended original name (much like saving a cleaned file to a new name after running fallrim tools) .

In addition... I often perform a manual save after tweaking the player with racemenu, using console (ex: $> save "sayah_sma_59_peregrine") so that when I scroll through saves on startup, I know where I am and which body mods I'll encounter if I choose to play using the vector. (original character name is Sahjia... modded via racemenu and renamed multiple times, in this case (ex) her name in game is now "sayah_sma", to correspond to the racemenu preset I saved after modifying her, her level is 59, and she's currently located at the peregrine highwatch player home) . This way, I know that any saves after that, and until the next manual (console) save, are using the racemenu changes I performed just before that last manual (console) save

Ahh, I see, that does all make sense. And I suppose the game affixes the original name to your save in a.. hidden and un-editable way? xD

I was aware of the console saving method, although using it like you do to 'organise yourself' better is a neat idea!

No, honestly it was just a slight niggling that my save file didn't match my character name - I thought it might perhaps be as easy as changing a line in a document/file somewhere. Why are things never that easy!
