tuxu
NMM won't start because of a .net problems -or- Do I really *have* to reinstall windows? No, not necessarily. You *might* solve your .net problem with "Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool".http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 This is my story all about how I've had some problems with .net infrastructure that barred NMM from launching correctly - including the happy ending which led to having some bandits end up with an arrow in their knees... My system crashed, I had to reboot and as I did there was a message on the boot sequence that... (fast forward) ... so i had to reinstall windows(good ol' XP, in my case) otherwise the computer will not start windows. I've reinstalled windows. A lot of softwares that were installed had to be reinstalled not because these were removed - just so their reg entries might be reconstructed. Before I started to reinstall these softwares I though it might be a better idea to do the same with win updates and infrastructure environment, c++ and java runtime env and also .net - the ussuals... As i was doing that i suffered some difficulties with the installation of .net since some of its win updates refused to install correctly - .net 3.5 was one of them. For an instance - when i ran NMM ti loaded into the ram as "NexusClient.exe" and used around 13mb, in windows task manager I could see it in my Processes list affiliated to my username but not in the Application tab. This could be found at the support post, entry 5(.net problems) here in the forum:http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/721054-problems-read-here-first-nexus-mod-manager-frequent-issues/"A> This, without a doubt, means that a malware/virus corrupted your .Net Framework installation, sometimes the only way to fix this is to completely reinstall your OS." It occurred to me that not all .net problems might require reinstall and that WinXP is still pretty much a common and solid OS so there oughta be more people like me that use it so for the sake of those users I'd thought I'd post this case study. I *did not* reinstall my OS because i had a .net problem - i went to MS website and searched for a solution. I've found "Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool" and my life became easier. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 Basically what i had to do was to activate this ms certified file before every update or critical installation that had previously failed and since those failed installations had to do with .net updates it would explain why NMM and other softwares have failed to run properly. Once I've used "Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool" before and through every update installation(an overkill, just to be sure) and have installed all the updates that windows required for it's .net infra NMM started correctly and the age of retribution had began and bandits have failed to walk properly upon tamriel for evermore! Good luck. Regards. Edited November 29, 2012 by tuxu
