bibijupanu
Hello! My name is Alex, I'm new here and because this is my first post, I salute you all!The reason I'm posting is that I would like to ask for some help or information with a mod I am inteding to build as a final year school project.I will try to be concise with my idea and intentions, so maybe someone will be kind enough to help.I practically want to model and texture my own variants of the humanoid races of Skyrim from scratch, keeping them lore friendly. Since it is a school project,I would like to demonstrate through this my ability to provide quality characters for AAA games. My problem is that even though I searched the internet and the forums for information on how to add your own characters for the game, I have only found examples of how to introduce original weapons and armor in the game, but less related to characters themselves, other than character leveling tutorials or how to replace your characters body with and NPC's and stuff like that. It kinda got me confused and frustrated. The thing is, I have used and enjoyed mods ever since Morrowind, however building one is a whole different problem as I can see.So, my conclusion/questions would be:-where can I go to find information on adding my own characters? Is it actually possible to add your own meshes? I want to explore this in depth.Am I missing something? I might just be stupid, or overhwelmed with the quantiy of information that can be found on the web about it, but that's why I came here, maybe you people cangive me an insight, it would be honestly appreciated.Thank you for your time! SoulMasterII
Hi,Have a look here for a start:http://www.creationkit.com/Tutorial_Creating_a_Playable_RaceI hope this helps?RegardsSoulMasterII
Dart98Rock
Whats up Alex. The best tutorials I found is on the Creation Kit Wiki. It is possible to add custom meshes to a custom NPC, not sue at the moment how. I think you might have to make a new race, to do that. Making NPC's actually ain't all that hard, click on ACTORS to open up the sub menus, then click on the first Actors menu. When you see a list of all the NPC's in the game, right click on any of them and select new. That will pop up a new window that lets you create your'e NPC. To create a race I'm think its almost the same Just go to the race list and right click new. When I get back into the Creation Kit I'll look around in it and see where you add your'e custom meshes. For your NPC there are certain factions you have to set them up to, It depends on if you want the NPC to just be a NPC, or if you want them to follow you. When I get on the Creation Kit I'll look for the factions to see which ones you would need. Also under the ID form and name, I think the only box you need to check is UNIQUE. To add your'e NPC to the game, go to the Cell View box, find where you want to add them, then drag and drop your'e new NPC where you want them. bibijupanu
Hello!Yes, that indeed helps, it would give me a starting point for the project. However, what if I effectively want to replace the actual vanilla mesh and texture, let's say for the Nord race, with my own, as well as for High Elves, Dark Elves and so on and so forth. That is my actual intention, keeping the actual races in their original number and context, but revamping them with original material.Do you think it is possible?Either way, thank you for the reply, I will definitely go in depth with the link you gave me.Cheers!Alex
scrivener07
Yup, people do that all the time. Replacing is even easier then adding new ones too.
bibijupanu
Really? Well I'm glad to hear that!scrivener07, can you or anyone for that matter point me to any links or anything where I could find information regarding replacing the characters, what methodology and software I need for that? Thank you!And thank you SoulMasterII and Dart98Rock for your input Ill take everything into account! Also, I was also thinking about animation of the characters. This is where I don't really have much experience, will the process of replacing the characters imply a complete re-skinning of everything?Alex
