Mirthadrond
So I tried using Modbuilder to make a few changes to Xcom. I get no error messages after applying the mod, but when I launch the game, nothing shows up. For example: Raised HP to 8, WILL to 60, AIM to 75. I start a new game and everything is using the 'default' settings, not the modded settings. So - I tried 'Resource Hacker" to make changes to the Xcomgame.exe. The changes I made with modbuilder are actually already there! So I make 1 more change in ResourceHacker, compile with no errors, exit and run Xcom. Again, none of the changes I've made show up?? Running STEAM in 'off line' mode, with exception to the first launch after deleting the mods and re verifying the files. Run Modbuilder, verify with Resourcehacker, still no changes to the game. Any ideas what I'm missing here? XcomGame.exe is in the Win32 directory. Modbuilder is in it's own directory in the main xcom folder. Oddly enough.. I cannot launch the game directly by clicking on the XcomGame.exe from within the WIN32 folder. Is that normal?? I was able to stop startup logo's with no problem, but that was handled in the "My Games" folder in MY DOCs folder, not the Steam sub directories. Any help would be appreciated.I'd love to create a mod where 'ballistic weapons' are all the humans use. All research goes to upgrading those weapons rather than discover 'new' weapons, because.. personally. I like the ballistic weapon effects more than the lasers and plasma weapons. Additional Questions: Do i have to start a new game for mod changes to take effect? ( have tried this BTW - changes still do not appear. They don't appear in saved games either.) Do I need to run the mod patcher WHILE xcom is running in the background? (haven't tried this yet) Edited November 30, 2012 by Mirthadrond
Drakous79
If I recall right, altered soldier's stats take effect on new soldiers only. Hire new soldiers or start new game and check if anything changed. Also you can try changing HP bonus of Kevlar armor. Armors=(ABILITIES[0]=eAbility_NONE,...,iType=eItem_ArmorKevlar,iHPBonus=10,...). Armor needs to be reequiped for changes to be seen.
FMod
So I tried using Modbuilder to make a few changes to Xcom. If so, it would not apply changes if it's in debug mode (as by default), and it's best to run the latest (0.81) to be sure. But I see that they were applied, so that's not the issue at hand. These 3 changes would only work on a new game or newly hired soldiers. You edited Characters=(iType=eChar_Soldier... for extra HP, correct? I'd love to create a mod where 'ballistic weapons' are all the humans use. All research goes to upgrading those weapons rather than discover 'new' weapons, because.. personally. I like the ballistic weapon effects more than the lasers and plasma weapons.I think it could be possible with more in-depth mods, perhaps to replace laser models with ballistic ones. But that would be very tricky.Out of what is doable without that - you could use item bonuses to improve weapons; an item would have to be researched and carried. A roundabout way, but still. Do i have to start a new game for mod changes to take effect? ( have tried this BTW - changes still do not appear. They don't appear in saved games either.)For some changes a new game is required. For others you need new soldiers. Almost no changes work mid-mission.If it's in the exe, it has to work on a new game. Do I need to run the mod patcher WHILE xcom is running in the background? (haven't tried this yet)No, on the contrary, shouldn't be running. It just executes once.
