hurdel
Hello, I recently got back into Oblivion and decided to download some mods since the character creation part is terrible. I decided to download mods that made characters have better faces, overall better looking bodies and such, more races(elven races), more hairstyles/accessories. I used the Nexus Mod Manager to do all of this and all my mods were listed in a list in it when the download was complete. I then proceeded to active the mods which it also did successfully. When I got to the character creation screen, there were no extra races. Well, there was one but it had no head and it looked like a ''poorly made'' mod(pink arms and whatnot) The new hairstyles could be used but they did not show on the character. And the characters were still ugly.... So basically, the mods won't seem to work for me which is strange since Nexus Mod Manager installed and activated it. What could be causing this? And how can i sort this out? I am new to the whole modding scene, by the way. Some of the mods did however work though... EDIT: Now my Oblivion doesn't seem to launch at all... goes black screen and exits.. Edited December 2, 2012 by hurdel
Euripedus
BTW, I still use WinXP as my OS so if you use a different OS the ununstall.reinstall procedure might be different. Edited December 2, 2012 by Euripedus
Euripedus
Heya Hurdel, I've had problems like this a few times myself. One possibility about pink skin: missing or wrong path pointers to textures. I personally dont trust installers very much. Far too often the mod author forgets a file in the archive and the installer either doesn't know it is missing or skips it because the path is wrong, making the game engine think it's missing. As for Oblivion black screening on start, uncheck all mods, then MOVE them to a safe folder and try the game again. If it still won't start, reinstall, you probably have a corrupt master.esm. To uninstall Oblivion after the 1.2...patch I've had to use regedit to remove all Oblivion game references. JUST game references, you can leave path locations to data files, you saves, etc. then reinstall the vanilla game and try it. Also, you might simply have save bloat or corruption since that race mod doesn't seem to be working right. Make sure you contact the mod author as well as he/she might have some ideas as to why there is a problem.
hurdel
The client works now - i got rid of all my 32 mods(one of them must have triggering the black screen) and it worked like a charm. Yes i most likely forgot to install required mods for some of them to work(according to the stickied thread on the board which I forgot to read in the first place) although I do wonder how some people can create those ''fantasy'' characters with a great skin, eyes and such.. hm.
