CTD in menus

Ok, I just tried the 'Opomized Textures'....they made the game look really ugly. Like, worse than the other reduce texture packs (well, maybe not as bad as 'Vanilla Reduced Texures').

I just COCed to Whiterun and ran to the spot you described (the Dragon Reach stairs, looking down on the market place with all the NPCs milling about. I think it's the right spot--this is my first playthrough of Skyrim and I've not yet reached Whiterun). With vanilla BSA at high quality textures and medium shadows, I was getting around 30 FPS. With Optimized Textures, I was getting around 40-50! It truly is a performance texture replacer....

...but it made the game look really ugly. :P

Well, I use Mod Organizer, so maybe I can rotate Optimized Textures into the lineup for big battles. What's ironic is that I am always the person who tells everyone that I don't care about 'graphics' and am far more interested in 'gameplay.'....

About 'HiAlgo Boost 2', I tried it a while ago and it didn't do anything for me. Apparently it works it's magic best when indoors, but I don't have issues with interior cells (other than when I open the cooking menu....). Anyway, I delete some recipes from both tanning and cooking, menu more stable now.

quite possibly having mods which edit recipe lists, leveled loot lists and add things in general have a tendency to cause ctd's unless you use compatibility patches (if any are available)

Load order is also very important to keep things running smooth. Your game might load up fine but when it comes to say looting mobs/containers/chests or browsing through your inventory or crafting menu's the game chokes.

Helps to go to the mod pages and see if they suggest a certain load order when using different armour mods :)

Tes5edit could also help in pinpointing errors. Load it up with all your mods selected, press ok and see if it pops up with an error and adjust your load order accordingly then rerun tes5edit again. Rinse and repeat until it starts up with no error then run your game and see if you can browse your inventory.

Hope that wasnt confusing -_-

vlaka,

I'll double check the compatability patches, its possible I missed one. Since its only in my cooking menu it should help narrow it down.

Tes5edit I have heard of but never used. I'm sure Gopher or another reputable source has done a video tutorial so that should not be a problem.

I was going to spell out all of my mods, however I think It might be hunterborn and realistic wildlife loot, there is not compatability patch, and they both add recipes, testing it out now.

Regardless thanks for the help, and the info still could come in rather usefull.

Thank you.

HUZZAH!!.....sorry playing a nord- "Thank Talos!"

Not using the Realistic Skyrim Wildlife Loot fixed my issue, shouldn't truly need it with Hunterborn regardless.

BTW- my cooking menu is the largest menu I have ever seen!!

Anyway, its fixed!

good to hear! :D

As for Tes5edit, it's very simple to use it as a means to test your load order. No fancy steps or instructions to follow either :)

Load it up, make sure all your mods are loaded and active (right click on the list of mods and choose select all) then press ok, it'll load your mods and if any are out of order it will stop and tell what the problem is and yu might just need to readjust the load order in NMM and load up tes5edit again :)

Rinse and repeat.

But since you got it working I guess you can skip it ;)

I know it's an old post, but using TES5 Edit did wonders for me. I'm not very tech savvy, and even I could figure it out, plus it took care of my conflicts making the game crash in my cooking menu. It also let me know about several other conflicts I didn't even know about.
