[LE] Wanting to make a custom skin

Recommended Posts

Well I have NEVER made a mod for skyrim se, however, I am wanting to make a new player race with custom skin. I already have the skin i want to use. I made it for my daz3d character. It is a half dragon male and female versions. I have looked through the files with nifscope and stuff but cant seem to figure out how to go about making my new race and adding my own custom skin to it. So ANY help with this would be greatful and appreciated.

oh come on, noone will even point me in the right direction? I already know how to do most of it, i just cant find the meshes to use for the player character. Nor how to add the textures to the game for it to use.

Your best chance to this is to find a mod that adds to the game a "New Playable Race", and follow / study every entry.
Is way too much info/data to write it down on a post.

ok I understand what your saying. However, still wondering where i can find out what meshes i need to grab to do the player body, face, and hands. Also, how to place a custom texture on them. I was thinking i could project map my texture onto the original body texture. not sure if that would work tho cause i cant even find the body mesh for the player.

To assign a texture to a nif you need to open the nif in NifSkope and link the textures to your texture folder path:

NiTriShape > BSLightingShaderProperty > BSShaderTextureSet

* Your new textures needs to live inside Skyrim > data > textures

* After you have assigned your 'New Text' you need to add that nif as a "NEW OBJECT" into CK, either if it is a 'Static' or 'Movable Static' or 'FX'... etc.

I've made a bunch of "Custom Races" (new npcs) which all of them uses custom made everything (meshes, skeletons, textures, audio...etc), but i've never dug into looking the exact mechanics of a "Playable Race" (used by the player), simple logic dictates that some things are different from a "New Npc Race", so giving advice on something that i don't know 100% for sure it might only cause you troubles.

* If you haven't done something like this in the past don't expect to get it right from your first tries, while you are digging into this you will see that there are a lot of things that involves in making a fully working Race from scratch.

I don't know how much this info can actually help you, but Practice Makes Perfect...

Have a happy modding.
