Question about noise reduction?

I'm having trouble with the sound levels of my PC when playing Skyrim, basically whenever I start Skyrim, and load a game, the PC starts to really sound like it's taking off and 'giving her all she's got'.

I don't have a problem running it graphically or anything, and my FPS has always been fine since getting it back in 2011.

My Specs are:

OS: Vista

Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz 2.33Ghz

Memory RAM: 4.00 GB

System Type: 32-bit operating system

278 GB free HDD space

Nvidia GeForce GTX 560

Now, what I'm wondering is, since I'm not sure it's simply a fan issue, is if there is anything I can buy to upgrade the PC to be able to manage Skyrim? By the sounds of things it sounds like it's struggling to run the game, if this is the case, what can I purchase to improve it's powers to run it, and make running it a lot quieter? I'm not very computer savy, but I'm thinking something like the CPU could be improved by buying a new more powerful one?

Thanks for any replies/help.

First of all, Switch to Windows 7(x64), It runs Skyrim allot Smoother and with less issues, as for Upgrading your PC i would recommend a new CPU, Preferably Intel i5 or i7, Maby more RAM DDR3 8Gb minimum. I am Currently Running Skyrim With an Intel i7 3770, 8Gb RAM, SSD, and a old GTX 460, and i can run Skyrim on Ultra, +80 mods, without any Issues. And i keep my CPU on around 40c with the Stock fan. My Rig is a bit noisy due to the old Cooler Master Cabinet, with the huge fan on Top, but there is no more sound when running Skyrim as when it's idle. I hope some of this information helped, Good Luck.

There are usually several fans in a PC. One for the CPU, One for the GPU (video card), one in the power supply and possibly one or more case fans. We need to figure out which fan(s) are the noisy ones and why they are noisy before being able to make a determination of what to do.

Most likely - GPU - the video card - Skyrim is hard on video cards.

Find a free temperature monitoring software. I use speedfan as it shows both fan speeds and temperature, but there are others just as good.

Then there are several options, one is, if it is a case fan replace the fan with a quieter fan - stock fans are notoriously noisy. If it is the CPU, replace the CPU cooler with a quieter type. Typically the fan is built into the video card and is more difficult to change.

Power supply fans are rarely noisy. They can be changed, but you have to disasemble the power supply - and some use special fans.

Before changing anything though, make sure the fans and air channels are clear of dust and crud. Be sure there is a clear path for air flow through your case - make sure all of your case fans are not blowing either all in or all out. Normally fans on the bottom, side and front blow in - fans on the back and top blow out. to suck in cooler air at the bottom and push hotter air out near the top.

One problem I see is another board too close to the air intake for the video card. It's best to leave an empty slot there for good air flow.
