twinj
I followed this (not new to modding, in the sense that I used to use the Resource Editor to do this), saved the DefaultGameCore.ini file from the config folder as DefaultGameCore.mod, as well as the patcher.dat and modpatcher.exe to the correct folder, ran the patcher.dat file (assuming it worked, it made a new EXE), and then every time I try to start XCOM with the modded EXE, it pops up a steam window saying 'completing installation' and downloads a file or something, takes about 10 seconds. Get in game, nothing too effect. I'm using the edited hosts file to block the firaxis connection, but it still borks my modding attempts >.> Using modpatcher 0.12. edited the hosts file as linked above (and the 'test' link didn't show up/download a file, so I know the edited hosts file works). Made two simple edits: Enabled Second Wave, and set the HP bonus on kevlar armor to 99 and soldier HP to 99 as well (in case one or the other doesn't take effect immediately). Neither showed up. If I put steam into offline mode, it pops up that 'completing installation' window, but it stays at 0% indefinitely. To complete installation you need to not have the hosts changed. Complete your installation. Then go offline. Then mod.

Edit: Uninstalled, reinstalled, ran XCOM for a few hours, now everything looks like it's working. No idea what the problem was -_- Edited December 10, 2012 by endersblade
Drakous79
Please note date of XComGame.exe after modifying it. Run the game, let it go, exit, check the date again. If it's different after exiting the game than the date you noted after mod attempt, hosts isn't blocking. I patched the game and got DLC Slingshot, while hosts blocked, everything worked except I did not get updates in My Games folder. But still, everything worked. FlyingHigh10000000
The steps you need to take to make sure you don't get the infinite installation loop: 1: Verify game cache with Steam. 2: Run the game once, without modifying /anything/. Ensure that the "Finalizing installation" message or whatever shows up, and let the game get to the main menu before exiting. 3: Modify your hosts file with the following: # Prevent XCOM Phone Home127.0.0.1 prod.xcom.firaxis.com127.0.0.1 65.118.245.165 4: Apply whatever modifications you want, with Modpatcher, Toolboks, etc, or hex edits if you're into advanced modding. Use XSHAPE to fix the upk hashes if you've done hex editing or used Toolboks(more information on that in that mod's readme, it explains decompressing upks for modding and so on, too. Really helpful stuff.) 5: Run the game, and you should be fine.

No idea what I did to it originally, but all is well, and all of my edits have taken affect.

Drakous79
Would be better, if you managed to get it to work, but you can try keybind commands. Edit: Aha, you already found it :) Edited December 11, 2012 by Drakous79

Edit: Aha, you already found it :)Ugh yeah i tried following your instructions (to change HP instead of money) but it doesn't work everytime i load the game, start a new game instead of 5 or 7 or whatever changes to hp, they start off with just the normal hp... idk whats wrong. Drakous79
Please can you post how are you exactly doing it? I am guessing you're editing kevlar hp in DefaultGameCore.ini and it doesn't work everytime. Do you have disabled phone home?

I run x-com-modded. I am having problems disabling phone home: as i'm running windows 7, and there IS a host file but I don't have permission to access it even though this is my computer lol.I'm trying to figure it out.btw do I have to modify kevlar? Can't I just change soldier's hp = 3 to hp = 7? EDITx2: Hey I just started using Resource hacker, because it works. Idk maybe its because I did that host thing. But I've read that people have been having problems with modpatcher since the patch, but Resourcehacker works with the patch. So i'm just going to use that since it works, but thanks for your help, and if anyone else is having the same problems that I had just use that program :) Edited December 19, 2012 by jkjkhardcore
