naitomeatori
Hello!! I'm rather new to modding in Skyrim, but I've managed to make some personal mods with the CK. I wanted to make a new race to make new NPCs, but nothing is working. I made the new race, set up all the attributes, and it works perfectly fine in-game as a player race. But I CANNOT get the CK to accept it as a race for NPCs too. I've use the CK option to convert the file to a "light master" which, I'm truly not sure if that would actually do anything, and I've used Wrye Bash to both flag the .esp as an .esm AND created a copy of the file that is a permanent .esm. None of these have done... anything. My race still shows up under "races," where I made it, but it won't come under characters where I can make an NPC out of it. I have scoured every forum I could find, and literally everyone solves this problem by flagging it in Wrye Bash. It simply doesn't work for me. I'm not sure if it's caused by an issue in my .ini (all I added was the ability to load multiple master files, everything else is default) or if my base file is just junk. I would love some input, because this little hitch is ruining all my modding plans. Which were probably too big for my britches, to be honest, but making a custom race for NPCs to use really shouldn't be this hard. Additional info: I have Zebsirious' race mod (the one that adds all the other Tamrelic races we don't get to see) and the Race Compatibility mod, which my new race mod is dependent on. I actually used one of the races from the former as a base to make sure I would get something functional (after accidentally deleting important files from the race creator and not being able to find them again, oops.) So all my race files in the CK SHOULD be 100% viable. The morph and armor reference races are set to vanilla races, as well. I wanted to use a couple other .esp files for making the NPCs, but one forum said that loading .esp files with the .esm files and making a mod with dependent elements on the .esp would cause the mod to break. Don't know enough about that, so I just loaded the .esm files. So right now I'm just loading the Skyrim and expansion master files, the race and compatibility mod, and my new race mod that has been turned into a master file. Please help me. I know I'm missing something, but it's like everyone knows what it is and isn't saying it. Do I need to flag the custom race as something specific? I'm not sure. I'm at my wits end. Also, sorry if this has been answered somewhere else. just link me the thread, and I'll move over there. Like I said, I've been on several different forums looking for the answer. I couldn't find it. Apologies. EDIT: I figured it out. I copied an NPC and changed it's race to my custom race, and then RESTARTED THE CK. now it shows up under actors. Consider this thread CLOSED. Such a simple fix but I always gave up right before figuring it out. That's 2 days wasted. LOL Edited March 26, 2020 by naitomeatori
naitomeatori
Update: Spoiler, nothing has changed. Does anyone have a solution? What step am I missing? I started over completely. Only used the vanilla game, no mods, as my parent files. Completely remade the new race from the ground up following an in depth tutorial I found here. Covered a lot more in depth stuff than the first one I followed (the one where you make a Red Breton). So I know all my files are in the right place, textures where they're supposed to be, all is good. I used dark elf as a base, didn't change any tags, just replaced the skin textures, made armor addon files, and changed some attributes. Added new powers and the like. All vanilla, since I lack the ability to create custom powers. The textures were just recolored vanilla textures. Everything is the right file format (textures are .dds). It... Somewhat works in game, I think the presets are screwing something up, but also I haven't recolored the complexion files yet, and moving that bar makes the colors all funky. Really not a big deal, since I'm sure I know how to fix that (by replacing the default textures). But no matter what... I cannot use it as an NPC race. Like before, I used Wrye Bash to flag it as an .esm. also just copied it to a new .esm. Loading either of those files into the ck does basically nothing. I even tried to use a current NPC, rename it, and manually change it's race to my custom race (which WAS in the dropdown menu) but after saving it as a new file it just... disappears. Gone. I can't find it anywhere. And it didn't add a folder under "actors" for my new race, which I was hoping it would. So... I'm really stuck. If there is ANYONE out there who has any idea what I could be doing wrong, throw it at me. I'm willing to try anything. Do I need to load the race compatibility mod alongside it? I CAN. I just don't know what to do. Thanks for any help. I just want to mod... It shouldn't be this frustrating. For now I'm going back to my previous project... At least building new areas isn't this hard. LOL
