Dilond
Okay, so I was thinking about making a mod but I want it to fit into the oblivion lore. I was wondering what Heaven and the Underworld would be considered as in oblivion lore?
mainmariobro
I'm a little late to this, but i don't remember what heaven is in the lore, but i do know hell in Oblivion is well, like oblivion, but if i remember right there are different places that aren't all fire and lava, some are frozen, some are dark, or Trippe, but i do know its all on the TES wiki. so look it up there. good luck. SirRomin
By the nine! What blasphemy is this? LOL. Seriously, if I understand your question correctly, you're perhaps referring to heaven and hell as in the fictitious places that exist in earthly mythologies? Although many religions seem to have similar basic concepts (from what I can tell so far), I've played Oblivion for hundreds of hours and have never noticed any mythology that closely resembles any of the religulous mythologies from Earth. :D Edited December 27, 2012 by SirRomin
Rennn
That wouldn't fit the lore. I suppose you could rationalize it, like the realm of Mehrunes Dagon is Hell and the realm of the most powerful Daedric Prince (God) is Heaven. Or something. Maybe "Daedra" is just a name given by the culture of Tamriel for a spectrum of angels, spirits, and demons. After all, just because the inhabitants of Cyrodiil believe in one view of the Daedra and magic, that doesn't mean they're right. Or, you could do something like Sovngarde. As far as I know, Sovngarde is normally reserved for people who live a certain lifestyle. You need to be a brave, powerful warrior to get into Sovngarde instead of Aetherius or a Daedric realm. Heaven could be a similar realm, which only people who fulfill certain requirements have access to. Having said that, I'm not religious. I consider all mythologies, modern or otherwise, equally possible. Take it as you will.
ShadowboltWings
Aetherius is roughly analogous to heaven in many in universe beliefs, especially in the faith of the Nine. On the other hand, mages tend to refer to it as a plane of pure magicka, and say that souls don't linger there but are recycled and reincarnated, so there's some debate. Oblivion, on the other hand, is not hell. There are countless planes of Oblivion, but souls don't really seem to go there. There's Sovngarde, where the souls of Nord warriors who die in glorious battle go, like Valhalla. There's the Void, where victims of the Dark Brotherhood and Brotherhood assassins themselves go. And lastly there's the Soul Cairn, a weird demi-plane (small plane, but still spacially infinite- which makes no sense, but hey) of Oblivion inhabited by the undead and ruled over by the Gem Vampires, where the souls of those soul trapped by black soul gems go. It's where you conjure your undead from. So, really, take your pick. It's a grab-bag of heavens and hells.
Jetdrive
There is Hircine's hunting grounds, which is where lycanthropes go. Nigtinggales become ghosts after dying and are condemned to defend nocturnal's shrine. Argonians are given to the hist after dying. So really like ShadowboltWings said, it's really a matter of finding which afterlife fits a character best.
