Valahul
Hi guys! I just finished the DLC Mothership Zeta.. and I saw the earth from the ship.. and there is not a single green spot on it (no living trees, grass, moss... nothing) So my question is.. How come people don't die?.. because there should be no Oxigen since there is no plant life. Is anyone able to explain this?
McclaudEagle
Technically, by the time Fallout 3 is set, there would have been a considerable growth of trees and other vegetation. It's more than likely that after 200 years, most of the plant life would have grown back, albeit perhaps a little differently. The ruins if Pripyat are a good example of trees and plant life thriving in a radioactive wasteland. The only explanation that can be provided is that the game developers simply wanted to create that typical nuclear wasteland scene, and didn't really care too much about the science behind it. Yeah.. but they could have at least put some green-gray-yellowish stuff here and there... like in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you played it.

McclaudEagle
To be honest, even after a nuclear bombardment that happened in 2077, it's highly unlikely that even in the real world, all the greenery would have gone. You've got the entire Amazon rainforest, the forests of Canada, rainforests across other continents, etc. There aren't many places in those areas of greenery that would actually be a target of the nuclear weapons. The Amazon is huge, yet there are no large populated areas within the rainforest, most of the targeted cities would be on the coast. One other thing that struck me when looking down on Earth on Mothership Zeta is that there was no visible water. Again, the oceans are absolutely enormous. All the nukes on this planet could be used and the oceans would still be perfectly fine (with perhaps some radiation).

I guess the game designers didn't give it much thought to realism. And yeah your right about the rainforest.. and about the whole thing. Like you said in the previous post.. I don't think a nuclear disaster would make all plant life disappear, looking at the Chernobyl incident.
charwo
There's a real earth mod, that although flipped is inspiring and easily becomes the best part of Zeta (and I loved Zeta, I'm still shocked at that.) whether you play the vanilla dead world or with a bunch of green world mods like I do, that real life earth, the virdant and living blue marble is the crowing moment of awesome. Every struggle has been worth it, and even of the Capital is a lifeless waste, the future will be better. The world is still a fine place, and worth fighting for.
