Ghola8
Hey everyone - I'm trying to create a mod that places the various Dark Brotherhood targets and contacts into the world without going through the DB questline. This would be a way to expand the cast of characters in the cities and towns for players who don't want to join the Dark Brotherhood (or destroyed it, like myself). These people are pretty unique and interesting, and it sucks that you can't meet them without being a bastard assassin. The huge issue I'm running into is dialogue. All of these characters have unique dialogue recorded for them, but I can't get them to say any of it. I've duplicated them (which should copy their dialogue, shouldn't it?) and I've renamed them so that they fit into the lore and world. I've tried both having them simply saying the dialogue, like many NPC's do when the player is near, and I've tried having them say it when activated, but neither works. Please, please help! P.S. I also can't figure out how to stop the Dark Brotherhood quest from updating if these characters are killed. I've removed the script from them, but for some reason that doesn't seem to work. TheGreenLion
Well, the main problem is that when you duplicate an Actor they no longer have the same name or ID. The dialogue points to a specific actor who can say those lines, in some cases they are shared. For instance, to make a trainer you can either make your own dialogue, or you can duplicate an existing trainer's dialogue and link it to your new Actor who will need to have the proper Class, Factions and Voice type to work. Quests and Dialogue can start to get tricky, so be careful when you mess with it. Start with one, see if you can't find their Dialogue and duplicate it, then edit the duplicated Dialogue to point at your new Actor. And make sure you take precautions if it flubs your game or saves.
