Kaaji1359
Pretty much what the title says... I wanna say I've heard of Wyre Bash, but I havn't really looked into it as it's an external mod that works outside of the game. Basically I'm wondering if there's a mod that allows me to change game names *inside* Oblivion. Thanks for the help!
Deleted269910User
Not really, no. Your only option would be to use the console and type 'save <insert wanted name here>'
Kaaji1359
Ah I didn't know you could do that. If I type "save <name>" and then later on save over that file, will it use the same name? Or will I be forced to type "save <name>" again? Or would it just be easier to use Wyre Bash??
Deleted269910User
I belive the save name should stick, but easiest way would be just to use that console function and just delete/back up the older saves you don't need any longer.
WoogieMonster
Are you talking about changing the name of the save file itself? Or the name of something in the game? If it's the file itself, you can just go to the file in the save folder, right-click, rename. Just don't mess with the dot-suffix on the end. I name all my saves after my character in that save. And it will stay that way until/unless you save to a new slot, then it goes back to the default number-name-place-time format.
Deleted269910User
Yeh, that works aswell, he just asked for a way to do it in-game and that console code is the only way for that. Plethora of ways to do it outside the game tho. :D
Kaaji1359
lol I guess that would be easiest. Do I change the .obse or .ess?? Also, what's the .bak for??
WoogieMonster
Just rename the save file ending in .ess and the next time you save your game the obse copy will update itself. So if you name the save after your character and his/her name is Alex, then your save file's new name should be Alex.ess. When you load your game in the menu it will appear simply as Alex, and will stay that way unless you save to a new slot. The .bak file should be your autosave, don't mess with it.
