Oblivion running fast then slow

Recommended Posts

First off, computer information

Asus G1S notebook

2.1 dual core intel

9500m GS Nvidia card

250gb HD

Running on mostly highest settings, with 1280x720 resolution

Lately, the game seems to be running slower than I remeber it. I have been doing alot of modding lately and have not actually played so I am not sure if I am misremebering or not but regardless...... Upon startup, and for the first minute or so I get good FPS about 25-35 on average (lowest 13 highest 45) however, after engaging on combat or other intensive events, the FPS goes way down and stays there even long after combat has finished.

Using a saved game after a fresh restart, I was running 26-30 FPS in a specific location (Whitcomb Farm). Then, after engaging in a healty brawl with the town guard in Anvil I left the area (with FPS notably reduced) and reloaded the saved game at the farm before the fight. Now in the same location, time, creatures ect. at the farm, my FPS will not break 20. It hangs around 17-19 dippin as low as 8.

What is happening here? It would seem to me the game is not clearing out the old data and letting the computer get bogged down - however, this is only a theoretical standpoint as I really know very little about how systems work. What can I do to fix this problem?

Thank you all in advance!

I tried that mod, and streamline too. Both did make an improvement overall, but the -start off fast then get slow- problem is still there. Streamline just made the slow and fast times a bit faster. Any other ideas?

Before i can identify the problem i need to know are you using alot of mods and did it work before you put on a couple of mods because the problem may be inactive mods in your data folder or textures and meshes not being used this causing clutter and confusion for the oblivion.esm which causes slower computer peformances.

I don't remeber it being like this before I got heavy into making armors, I do have some unused esps and files, the whole Oblivion folder is about 8-9 GB, might that be too much? I have also noticed improved performance immediately after a defrag. i

edit: have about 50 mods running at the moment, and now that i think about it, that quite a lot....

It is also stuttering, which is the main problem. For the first 5 seconds after loading up a save things are smooth and FPS is 30, then it starts to drop and drop and then stutter getting to a low of 13 FPS.

I have tried deactivating all mods - no change

I have tried lowering all graphics settings to minimum - FPS went up but the stuttering stayed. Now it starts at 55 FPS then drops to 35 and stutters

No idea if it helps you, but mine suddenly started slowing down drastically ( some 40- 50 FPS less), really bad stuttering..

Oblivion was more like a slideshow.. None of the ingame or Oblivion.ini graphics ghanged anything, however, I had some 1200 saves, all considerably higher than 4 MB each ( except for first few).. AFter I deleted nearly all, game got back to normal..

Hope it helps..
