fessen
After having tried A Quality World Map - With Roads combined with High Quality 3D Map, I can no longer open my map. Even after uninstalling both mods, my map just doesn't work. I used NMM for both mods. What happens: When I load a game and open my map, it immediately closes down and sends me back to game. Because of this, I can no longer fast travel or find my location in the world, which is fairly inconvenient. Still no solution, but I found out that the issue is no longer there if I run Skyrim regularly, as opposed to running SKSE. However, removing and reinstalling SKSE did nothing to resolve the issue. Can anyone help? I don't know what is causing this to happen.
Deleted1308005User
I'd recommend downloading the mod again, check what it contains and manually removing everything it added. Sometimes NMM uninstallation feature fails and content stays. (only parts) But still.
MShoap13
Could you post a full list of mods you're currently using? The two you mentioned are simple resource replacers and as such they generally don't cause these kinds of issues. Additionally, the fact that running your game without SKSE, makes the map load up just fine, reinforces to me that you have some other issue going on. stars2heaven
I've also had this trouble when making changes to the ini. You might try generating a new one and not altering it (unless you changed ugrids to load, in which case you should alter those to match) just to see if that helps. If it doesn't you can put your old one back and you will be sure that the ini is not your problem.

I appologize if this is a stupid question, but I'm not very technical with these things (makes me wonder if I should even be playing around with mods, I just love the customization possibilities), but how do I generate a new one and what would it do to the game? MShoap13
Move your current .ini's (located at \My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\) to a temporary location and then launch the game. This will automatically generate new .ini's with default values. This will effectively rule out your config files as the source of the issue. As stated earlier, if you've increased uGridsToLoad in your current config files, you'll need to do so with the newly generated ones in order to load your game. If this step doesn't fix the issue, try getting a papyrus log for us by adding/altering the following lines to the [Papyrus] section of your Skyrim.ini:bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation = 1 If there isn't a [papyrus] section in your .ini, feel free to make one anywhere. The log will be stored in \My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Logs\Script\ and it's best to open it in Wordpad or Notepad++ as opening it in plain notepad results in improper formatting (line breaks are missing and it just looks like a jumbled mess). Preferably copy and paste it here in /spoiler and /code tags. Edited December 17, 2012 by MShoap13

The ini has tons of tweaks for things mostly graphical but also plenty of other things. Some things alter the way the map behaves. Sometimes changing things around too much or putting in the wrong settings can cause crashes. If you generate a new ini you will be able to rule out your configuration files as the culprits if the crashes persist.

If you generate a new ini you will be able to rule out your configuration files as the culprits if the crashes persist. I tried generating new ini's. First I ran SKSE-shortcut, but the game started in about 1/12 of the regular size (windowed, yet I had to alt+tab to get the curser outside the game), so I deleted the new ini's and ran the game from Steam to generate new ones again. Then I closed down and ran SKSE, but map still just shuts down when I opened it. I even tried disabling Build Your Own Home mod, since it was the last one I installed, right before the map mods, but it did nothing. I typed in the lines in the Papyrus section, but the game doesn't crash, so will it effectively save a log in this case? EDIT: I'll try running around for a bit to see if it appears. MShoap13
Yes, it will save a log. Just load into your save, open the map menu, then exit the game. I'm really having you do this just to see if SKSE is installed properly but opening the map menu might (just might) point us in the right direction.
