MattMaster20
Hello everyone I hope someone can help me. First off I have read the nexus beginner mod page about modding Fallout New Vegas what everything is about and how to do it. Unfortunately I got confused/ lost and don't know what to do. For starters I want to know the correct way to download the game, I own it on steam and all the dlc. I read that you should never have the game linked to your x86 files or program files. I have an external drive so should I download it there? Second whenever I did have FNV downloaded and running I tried to get the 4Gb patcher to run but whenever I would click the .exe file an error message would pop up saying could not find svcr120.dll. After googling this is came back with microsoft visual studios not being installed or updated so I downloaded the most recent one. But that still didn't fix the issue. I hope this is somewhat clear. If anyone has any advice please help. Thank you. Edited April 6, 2020 by MattMaster20
dubiousintent
Yes, you can install the game to your external drive. However, depending upon the external device connection type, that might be slower and result in stuttering. You can also install it to the "C:" or other "internal" drive; just first create a separate folder (such as "C:\Games") and install FNV there instead of the default location. (Instructions in that "installing Games on Windows Vista+" wiki article linked in my signature.) Use the "custom install" option of Steam, which will let you choose where to place the game files. The "svcr120.dll" is part of the "Visual Studio C Runtime Redistributable" package. FNV is a 10 year old game and is probably looking for a very specific version of those files. It does not know about later versions being "compatible". You will likely need the 2013 version, though some later versions may also work. (And it is okay to have multiple versions of the various runtime libraries installed at the same time. You need the 32-bit version for this game.) -Dubious- Edited April 7, 2020 by dubiousintent
