zrochance
Well, I've had Fallout 3 for over a month now. I eagerly awaited this game, being a huge fan of the first two and with post holocaust an otherwise empty genre Fallout 3 was a lot to hope for. Of course by hoping for so much I was setting myself up for disappointment I guess. Here are my primary beefs. Number one. The ending of the main quest. It blows beyond all imagination. I won't go into it in depth but here's the thing. Logically you should pursue the main quest without getting sidetracked. After all it is the reason you left the vault. Big nasty surprise waiting for those who do. Number two. Character generation / beginning storyline. Geez you are basically locked into being a nineteen year old from a happy family. Sorta makes playing an evil character not make any sense. Maybe they should have had you get shot in the head and lapse into a coma trying to escape the vault. At least then you could have picked your age and personality type. Number three. Main quest too short. It was over practically as soon as it began. Pitiful really. Can you say 'rushed the game to the market.' Number four. Where is the humor? FO1-2 had tons of humor and pop culture references. The comments from NPC's about the char made the game worth replaying dozens of times just to see the variations. FO3 is virtually devoid of this. F03 NPC's say 'Hi' and other boring stuff, very few snide comments. Number five. Some aren't going to like this but 'Adult Themes' FO1-2 where heavy with mature themes WITHOUT being overly sexual. If you slept with another character the screen simply faded to black and the character made some comment, usually based on your stats. FO3 doesn't even dare go that far. I realize that today the gaming industry is much more heavily monitored than it was when FO2 came up, but geez, The Sims is far more sexual than FO3 is. Number six. Instant healing by sleeping, too easy combat, on and on blah blah blah. . . A whole list of things like weapons deteriorating at an insane rate, corpses that never rot, opponents that never respawn, too much ammo, improvised weapons that you won't get a chance to build until after you already have much better, leveling up too fast, melee weapons useless because all enemies have ranged weapons. I had an assault rifle and combat shotgun before I was level 4. . . I could go all day. . . Number seven Waiting for SDK. I'm just really disappointed with the game. I could have been so much better. Shouldn't have to wait for a slew of mods just to make it right. :wallbash:
macmert
Welcome to the cruel world of gaming industry :D Well still the game is fun and the good thing is it is moddable, so many modders who see the missing parts of Fallout will give their best to fill the gaps... The lvl cap for instance... It is no more problem right now, since it is modded and you can go all the way to lvl 100, of course it is not perfect, you lose your title back to vault dweller after lvl 21 and if you are evil, it crashes :D byt hey it is a start... or skill point cap, it is now 255 instead of 100 with a mod... But I agree completely, it feels like the game is rushed badly, I mean Oblivion's ending was epic, the last battle was insane, it was hard and it was a real joy to watch it... but in fallout, it is not, to say the least in order not to give away spoilers :) there are many missing points in the game but at least now we will have a CS, so even I will try to learn to use it in order to create something on my own :)
astat
Number one/three: No. My characters' motivation for leaving the vault was to avoid getting killed by the Overseer's goons. My first character, who turned out to be some sort of chaotic cowboy, actually started searching for dad, but got distracted along the way and is now kinda settling down in Megaton. Second character didn't find dad's goodbye note and isn't all too fond of him atm. Heck the sociopathic girl might even shoot him if he ever showed his face again. And she listens to Enclave, not Galaxy News. Number two: Don't want to start spoiling around, but I'd say the various childhood episodes (and the other people's reactions to your actions!) leave you with enough room for setting the tracks of your character's personal development. The only thing you can lament about is predefined age, but I think the intense epilogue story make up for it. Number four/five: The decisive difference is F3 being a big title, aimed for the masses. With their budget, they had to make it mainstream. I agree, mods is the way. There's no game these days that wouldn't need the polish of some decent mods anyway. jaysus
the fps part is horrible (did the devs ever play a descent fps game? autoaim lol)... and vats is kinda repetetive (cmon a body does not only have 4... 5 parts you can shoot off ;))... but i still like it for what i like the TES games or POTC... freedom to do what you want... and with mods thats even extended... as to the cs theyre working on it and in the meantime look around here... lots of mods out yet and the skills improve daily (just released my skinning tut yesterday so go and make an armor... now!)but i agree on the funnyness side... never played fallout 1 or 2 very much (i was holed up by wing commander back then) but i remember games in the 90ties basicly always being funnier... just remember lucas arts adventures... *starts dreaming of elaine threepwood my childhoodlove*nevertheless there is still alot of humor in it just really dark humor and sometimes you need to be a sick male without a father to understand it lol

Pirates of the Carribbean? and would you please post your tutorial link here... I want to start modding and I need to start from somewhere, so your tutorial would be a good place to start, then I will try to learn scripting so that I can create my quests with the CS... If I would have the time and the patience of course :)
