ManIndaHat
I have given up on finding a modeler and decided they went extinct. So, could someone point me in the direction of modeling in oblivion\fallout and wether i should use blender or milkshape. Would be very aprreciated. SirSmokeALot
I used Blender when starting to make mods for Oblivion and now I use it to mod for Fallout .The Program is pretty easy to learn if you want to learn how to use it look here:==> http://www.blender.org/education-help/ If you want to know more about Modeling for Oblivion visit:==>http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Portal:ModelingI learned modding while working with Oblivion and come along with Fallout3 modding just great. Edit: I newer used Milkshape so I don't which one is better for modeling Fallout and oblivion.
SpeedyB64
I find the best way to model is to use Cad software like solid works then run it through 3ds max. Many types of cad software are easy to use, in Solid works it takes very little time to make a very complex model. The only problems with this are: cutting up and texturing the model in 3ds max and the price of cad software. BTW there are plenty of modelers, the problem is that modeling takes a lot of work and modelers tend to focus on there own projects.
jaysus
you use CAD? omg...utmost RESPECT!!! :) i did architecture for some time and all CAD pieces i used where just too limited (well solid works is a bit different i agree)... i even started using max and unrealed instead of these pieces... theyre good to calculate stuff for you like surface and mass or for creating standardized buildings with straight walls but imo not for creating complex shapes... and believe it or not most architects actually dont even use their 3d abilities... they just paint spline upon spline and are happy... the "crazy" (in a good way) architects like NOX mostly use max... we used blender (apart from CAD) in the bauhaus thus i advise you to use that as it offers you everything max has but for free... My husband uses autocad for his job all the time, but he has absolutely no interest in Oblivion. But he likes to see some of my blender-adventures. But yeah, I'm working on stuff I want. And did I mention I suck. I rely heavily on the kindness of friends to bale me out in an emergency.
jaysus
did i mention i hate autocad and autodesk in general? ;)damn monopolists... archicad and even nemetshek are better imo... but i know i stand alone in the whole world lol...well xcept your man is a mechanical engineer i guess autocad is better then... SpeedyB64
Lol! I first learned about solidworks at school. I then got a copy from a friend (it costs an ungodly amount of money). I find it really easy to model something in Solidworks 2008, just draw a sketch extrude it then add, cut, round, slice it to the shape I want! Then export as VRML and import into 3ds max and cut it up and texture it. I made most of my L.A.R.G. and Magsniper like this. :)
jaysus
nice :)as you can see dear hatman it doesnt matter what you use but how you use it... anything can work if you understand its principles, what it does and what you want oh did i mention Teddy? you just have to try it... its a sketching prog where you literraly draw a 2d pic (with a gfx tablet for example) and it turns it 3d... i made my sig with it (textured in max)very nice for organic shapes like a teddy for example...teddy linkwell its not very good if you intend to create a hollywood quality alien obviously but neat enough for smaller stuff or for pre-production stages aswell as drafts
ManIndaHat
omg, which one transforms things into 3d and is there a free version? Because i can draw pretty well, i have 2d concept sketches of most of the things i want, i just cant model it.
jaysus
lol juct click the link... its free... but read the manual, or whatever there is, to learn the tools as there are not many buttons but depending on how you move the cursor it does different things
