mastaChi
So I have an idea for a mod I would like to undertake, which would in essence be a framework for integrating non-lore content seemlessly into the game as a minigame played through dreams when the Dragonborn sleeps. I amrelatively new to Skyrim, and have really only done some texture/mesh modding thus far, but have experience in modding fallout 3 and fnv, as well as oblivion. So I am wondering what I need to know about papyrus and skyrim game mechanics before delving in, like is this even possible or if I am likely to break quests, such as DB? To layout what I had in mind, at some determined point in the game, the Dragonborn would go to sleep, and find themselves in a dreamspace where they would encounter the living embodiement of an elder scroll. This being would explain to the dragonborn that their soul was not bound to a single body or lifetime, but that reading the acroll had unlocked their reality from the physical plane of their existence. What would come about as a result would be a series of nonlinear mini games (for lack of a better term) that trigger each time the dragonborn sleeps, where the player takes on the role of a new character to undertake a short set of goals in an alternate reality before waking. Successful completion would confer powerful bonuses for 24hours to the dragonborn upon waking from the dream. This would allow for mod authors to expand on the existing framework and create the ability to include noncanonical content into the game, while still being lore friendly.Am I on the right track, or is this far too ambitious? Tasheni
After reading your description I would think it's very ambitious but not undoable. I can't see how this could be a framework. But a questmod would be good enough. I would not advise you to trigger anything every time player sleeps, this will be very annoying. Best advise I can give is to stay away from everything that interfers with vanilla quests. You could start your questline after certain vanilla quests are done to prevent problems. Write your questline and then look for places where it could happen. You need to learn about anything that's already there.
