This may sound stupid

I have read in the FAQ that FO3 is not moddable on the Xbox 360. I have this to say, I have managed to extract the ISO from a retail copy of Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360, unpack the ISO and successfully open the .bsa files in the Fallout Mod Manager with no problem. What I want to know is why exactly you say it can't be done. "The architecture is different" is not an excuse I will buy. If I can read a file, then in theory I can write it. I know that Xbox 360 games have been successfully modded before, like GoW and DoaX2. I know that you need to have a modded 360 in order to play burned games, and I have performed that specific modification already on my secondary Xbox 360. I am hoping for intelligent replies and not ones that just say "It can't be done" with no supporting evidence.

inb4 "It can't be done"

EDIT: I gave up and just bought a PC.

Basically, you can't run mods with the xbox360 because it most likely doesn't have the menu to set them up.

So the only way to "mod" it is to extract the files, modify the data permanently, and burn it back into a new dvd, and play it. But this means your xbox360 needs to be modded then?

Console related mod threads are not permitted here. Some basic Q&A's (as well as some very thorough ones) are posted in several areas around the Nexus as well as in a few pinned topics. They can found through the sites search feature.

Well, actually..

if you could open, modify, and then re-pack the BSAs...

and open, modify, and repack Fallout3.esm...

You could have a modded XBox 360 version of the game. It would just be a big pain in the ass. :D

You have limited space (the DVD), and any mod you get has to be appended directly to Fallout3.esm (as you can't tell the game to load other files, as far as I know). But it'd work.

I'm not asking about modding my console, only the disc that is being fed into it. I don't really understand why things like this aren't allowed on modding sites, as it is not against the law. Modding must be legal, otherwise this site wouldn't be here. All mods should be kept off of Xbox LIVE even if it is a single player game. Connecting or attempting to connect to the Xbox LIVE service with hardware that has not been approved for use on Xbox LIVE is against the Xbox LIVE Terms of Service. I know this and play all mods offline.

I was thinking of just modifying everything that already exists rather than make some sort of expansion.

This has greatly sparked my interest. I will keep checking on this thread regardless of what others say. Are the textures and meshes the same file types?

You can open the .bsa files, explore them, and extract them successfully. I'd assume so.

I can understand where the more experienced users of this site are coming from whenever some n00b comes along and asks "Hurrrr I kan haz TreeSiktee modzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz?????????" I am not here to do that. I am here to research, improve, and crack this. I know what it is like to deal with retards on a daily basis asking me how to mod. H3mod gets flooded all the time by n00bs like that. I came here because I heard that this was the best Fallout 3 modding site around. I figured someone here might have spent some time on this and might be able to pass on some tips or maybe that they had cracked it. Clearly you have never found someone willing devote time and money to 360 modding. 360 mods aren't going to get anywhere unless SOMEONE spends time on it.

By the this is not stupid, and thanks for bringing this up.

The problem is that console games generate most of their money(or at least a large portion depending on the game) through downloadable content, if there are free mods then why buy overpriced skins? This is why downloadable content is almost always free on PCs and even if you do not release a modding kit people can and will mod the game, so it is better to help them than to hurt is what I think, plus it makes for a great reason to buy a game that is already at a lower price that can be used without the disk on multiple computers.

Uhh... thanks for that post.

If people could start listing some mandatory mods, that would be great.

So far:

-Nude mod (lol)
