Rennn
In the past, my pc slept and woke without any problems. Starting a few months ago, my pc would turn itself back on within seconds of going into sleep mode. I'd need to put it into sleep mode two or three times before it stayed asleep. A few days ago, I found that my pc will sleep successfully on the first attempt. However, when it wakes up, it will freeze and crash. This has happened three times in a row, and I've stopped testing it in case it's harmful to the computer. The pc boots fine, but it's the sleep function that doesn't work. Does anyone know what might be causing this, or how to fix it?
Dan3345
Kind of a difficult thing to diagnose without more info but here are some things to consider. -do you regularly clean your registry?-have you installed any major software lately?-did you notice a change after installing said software?-have you updated your motherboards BIOS lately?-What is your power supply's maximum wattage, and what is it powering if you know? For the last question I am referring to your sig. Have you updated your video drives lately? Do you have an image of windows you can fall back on? For the last question I am referring to your sig. Have you updated your video drives lately? Do you have an image of windows you can fall back on? -I normally clean my registry every couple months. -I haven't installed anything large, except Origin and Google Chrome, and I doubt those would effect it unless Origin has a problem with resuming after my pc sleeps. However, the problems with my pc refusing to sleep in the first place were around long before I installed Origin. -I don't think so. -I've never updated it. -750w. It's about a year old, and it's powering a Phenom II, GTX 460, 8GB of RAM, a 7.2Ghz HDD, and other assorted things like a disk drive. It should be overkilling my current rig. Dan3345
Found this tidbit of advice on the internet - Do this for your keyboard1. Click Start, type Device manager in the search box.2. Goto Device manager.3. Click on keyboard, it will display your keyboard, right click and goto properties.4. Select Power management.5. Check Allow this device to wake the computer. Once done for your keyboard do it again for your mouse. Restart. Test. Also check to see what your power supply settings are. If it is set to green mode that can sometimes cause problems for the OS to resume. The PSU suddenly goes from nothing happening and low power draw to suddenly needing a lot. This can cause a problem regardless of how great your PSU is and low its demands are. I would say also try searching in the windows start menu for "update" minus the quotes of course and click on windows update. Install whatever necessary updates are there, your OS may simply have an incomplete update or need a minor patch. If all else fails (and I know this sucks) you should consider taking any important personal files like documents, images etc. onto an external drive and reinstalling windows. Sometimes important OS files get corrupted by every day change and use, and the only fix is to reinstall the OS. But if the above doesn't work I think there are a few more tricks to try before reinstalling the OS.
Rennn
Thanks. I checked the mouse and keyboard properties, and both were already set to be able to wake the computer. Setting the power plan to high performance didn't change anything, unfortunately.
