SkyrimDragonborn30
@ anyone who reads this: Hi, I'm not new to nexus but recently took a more concerted effort while in quarantine to learn my ass something new. I decided it was high time I learned how to port some of my favorite skyrim mods and convert them to sse. It seems like no matter how many tweaks I make or how many guides I follow, or even how many .ini settings I change, I can never get 32bit skyrim to work well on my Alienware Gaming PC. So I've switched over to sse for the overall better quality gameplay. The 1st question I have is how can I tell if it is safe to upload a ported version of a mod? (My current predicament) - The oldrim mod Keira Metz - Voiced Witcher 3 Follower appears to be in a sse porting limbo, I currently have the mod fixed and ported for my own personal use but, realize that not everyone may feel comfortable or confident enough to try converting mods on their own, even with guides available. So I created a port in hopes of being able to upload and and provide the mod to people (like myself at one point) who might not be able to understand how to convert things on their own and, are just looking for the mod itself with none of the extra hassle. So how would I go about getting permission from a mod author who doesn't seem to check messages or reply to comments? I realize the importance of asking this and making sure I give the proper credit to all parties involved but, is that all I need to port is permission or do I need more? Like permission from CD Projekt RED as well? My 2nd question is in regards to the port I uploaded this morning: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34802 Is that an acceptable way to upload the mod? Does the ported version have to match the oldrim mod page exactly? 3rd and final question is how will I know for sure when I can and cannot port something in the event that a mod author neglects or refuses to answer comments or questions? To further clarify, the mod author of the mod I'd like to port has his permission and credits worded as follows: "Author's instructionsThis mod may not be copied, reproduced, distributed, transmitted, broadcast, licensed or otherwise exploited for any other purpose whatsoever without the prior written consent of the respective owner. This mod, nor its containing assets, may not be re-uploaded or otherwise shared without direct and explicit, written permission. If permission is requested and subsequently granted, you are still bound by the permission-seeking responsibilities of any and all assets used in the creation of this mod or its containing assets; in addition to any other terms disclosed. Do not re-upload this mod to Bethesda.net, Steam Workshop, or any other website without permission! No mod packs; no mod pickers." Are ports considered copies? Do I need permissions from all the authors of all the mods involved in the creation of this mod or just the permission of the author of the companion mod only? The only site I would want to re-upload it on is NexusMods. My reasoning for wanting to port it to sse I believe is a wholesome reason. As someone who has self taught himself how to mod and use the programs to be able to do this, I have a dual perspective in that I understand how scary and overwhelming it is to try and do this without messing things up. I just want to be able to provide the same thing I'd been waiting and waiting for to the numerous people out there who still aren't sure how to mod or make changes to NPCs. I know back when I first started modding how I wished someone would just create shortcuts to things like companion mods for me. Thanks in advance for any help and info provided. Sorry for being uninformed but, I just want to make sure I'm doing things correctly. Edited April 16, 2020 by SkyrimDragonborn30
NexusComa
#1 You need the authors permission.#2 You didn't have the authors permission.#3 You still need the authors permission. On the other hand you can do anything you wish with your own game as long as it stays on your computer.
