I've only had four so far, dogmeat, charon, fawkes and clover.Clover keeps complaining about her gun not being good enough or she's bored,etc,etc....Dogmeat rushes in where wise men fear to tread.Charon's ok tho he grumbles a little.I like Fawkes because he seems more personable,i have to like my companion, and he's huge.So far he's my favorite.

a bunch of collected deathclaws or a behemoth...

i like charon but he has to wear security helmets... i dont want leprosis you now...

fawkes is just a female dog... after i finished the game once ill never have him with me again... heck that idiot lets me die where he could save the world and even live through it...

regarding talk i best like jericho... he smokes, laughs, and is just cool... my type of a buddy...

clover really is kinda bitchy too but shes just so sexy with her crazyness... and loose in the sack aswell... <-#1 choice of me... just dont give her an AR she wastes bullets like other women shoes...

butch mmh... well he needs ammo... but can make my hair... dunno i like him... hes afterall my only left childhood "friend" well somin like that...

the robot is just pointless... i got him once and travelled like 5 metres before he got wasted by a few raiders... and i used godmode the .44 and just headshot each and everyone in one vats round (starting with the most dangerous raider)... still he was dead before it ended...

dogmeat is actually stronger than most think... and hes cute... a real true friend...

what about all the "wannabe" followers like red and cherry?

its fun if you use a mod to get more than one and invade DC... at least you can use all that stuff you store in megaton or in the "le crapusier" flat... and a few of em together can lay waste to each and anything...

----------------

best followers were the outcast patrols tho imo... theyre just cool and no wimps like the BOS troop of paris or what the old dude in the citadel is called

well actually i followed them but it was fun... we were a good band even tho they told me to stay out of trouble or somin all the time...

I would say Fawkes since he is the most intelligent of the bunch and I like to talk with him... Otherwise I would also prefer "No followers" since they... are useless, tend to die pretty quickly and worst of all, they dont talk much... If you play Baldur's Gate II yuo would know what I mean... In fact they are really "followers" not "companions"

I still feel alone out there even with the followers behind me... also they dont know how to sneak, burst into rage and ruin my gameplay... But really the worst part is they dont talk... I would also carry another gun but not them... I mean think of Keldorn, Aerie, the gnome illusionist or Minsc!!! (they are all from BGII) Have you ever seen a companion as colorful as Minsc? After seeing those companions, Fawkes or Paladin or even dogmeat is not quenching my thirst for quality companions... Even watching Sulik in Fallout II was fun, but not the followers in Fallout III

1- Charon. He is very lethal with his shotgun and is stealthy whenever you are. He also doesn't wander off like some tend to do.

2- Jericho. Same as Charon really, but with a chinese assault rifle, but Charon takes the crown for not needing to have a specific karma level and making short work of rad-scorpions in no time.

3- Fawkes sure has some firepower and hitpoints, but with me he always seem to run all over the place, shooting up everyone he finds, and thus taking xp from me, as well as giving me a hard time looking for the loot left behind. Not to mention that he has this tendency to blow up every car and bus he comes across since a lot of his shots miss their intended target.

But he does make you feel kind of immortal I guess.

4- Cross is a great melee character with that big hammer of hers. Her laser pistol is nothing special.

Probably a nice party member if you are a melee person yourself, although her karma requirement is annoying. She's the only one that runs off whenever you decide to change your ways to nasty.

5- Sergeant RL-3 is captain averagely average in my book. I've got nothing special to say about him.

6- Dogmeat is worthless, combat wise. As much as I like the mutt, him running off to attack people while I am stealthy is very annoying. I'd always need to run after him to make sure he doesn't get himself killed. Him jumping up to attack enemies is also annoying, since sometimes that makes me shoot the poor critter in the head when he jumps in my way.

He redeems himself somewhat by being able to find supplies and because I simply love dogs.

7 and 8: Clover and Butch. They both carry poor weapons, so if you decide to take them with you you'd need to give them a better weapon, and more importantly, valuable ammunition to go with it. Besides that, they both are annoying as well.

Edit: I also agree with macmert. Beth sure has something to learn when it comes to making a perfect rpg.

Characters like in Starwars KotoR and the Baldur's Gate series were magnificent. Responding on eachother, hating eachother, caring for eachother and whatnot. And, indeed, great personalities.

In fact, the followers in Fallout III has potantiel, for instance take... what was his name... the guy in megaton, ex raider... Whatever, for instance, his history being a raider might be interesting... IE his nemesis from his past might chase him, imagine, the nemesis is a BoS, and if you play a good game, you have to make a choice, between turning him in or teaming up with him... Imagine this is the first thing comes to my mind, I made this up five seconds ago... So much could be done and I am talking about the current followers, I am sure that many modders will add many characters to the game...

I dont want to spin around conspiracy theories but I guess Bethesda was a bit lazy, didnt want to mess around with follower mechanics... Instead publish a CS and many hard working modders will do these kind of followers... for free...
