Skolhamarr
I was playing the other day, I was at that part and just listen to martin speak... Its really, I would not want to follow him...I know it would be very hard to change the speech, but if one could do a voice over.... There is one speech, that comes to mind, that would suit this moment. Shakespeare Henry V, St. Crispen's Day Speech change the wording around to match oblivion the game. Its just great speech even from a play, it would fit... If we are mark'd to die, we are enow To do our country loss; and if to live, The fewer men, the greater share of honour. God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more. By Jove, I am not covetous for gold, Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost; It yearns me not if men my garments wear; Such outward things dwell not in my desires. But if it be a sin to covet honour, I am the most offending soul alive. No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England. (Cyradiil) God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour As one man more methinks would share from me For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more! Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host, That he which hath no stomach to this fight, Let him depart; his passport shall be made, And crowns for convoy put into his purse; We would not die in that man's company That fears his fellowship to die with us. This day is call'd the feast of Crispian. ( feast of Akatosh or something) He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd, And rouse him at the name of Crispian. (Akatosh) He that shall live this day, and see old age, Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours, And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.' Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars, And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.' Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember, with advantages, What feats he did that day. Then shall our names, Familiar in his mouth as household words- Harry the King, (Martin, Bard ect) Bedford and Exeter, Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester- Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red. This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in England now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day. jaysus
just that not many players would like to sit through 10 (well 3 ok lol) minutes of shakespeare let alone undertand thy author... and i would fight for martin to not get enslaved by dagoth-X (forgot which one it was... he died swiftly)simple as that... i dont fight for him but for me, he just happens to have the same goal (and he sacrifices himself for that... impressive) as me and seems to be a nice dude with alot of influence obviously... Skolhamarr
would not fight for might have been a little harsh...At this point in the game, the player already knows the important of this conflict ahead His Inspirational speech to the troops was lacking. To something as import as this, last stand so to speak. You would want to make as inspiriting as possible to the troop before battle.. For battle almost the same as what Henry faced at Agincourt, Henry fought with grim determination at that battle. Out number, by the French and he was still able to carry the day. Much like Martin, the odds were not in his favor, the enemies field heavier troops. I see some of what Henry had in Martin Character.. What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,Familiar in his mouth as household words-Harry the King, (Martin, Bard ect) Bedford and Exeter,Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red. This story shall the good man teach his son;And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,From this day to the ending of the world,But we in it shall be remembered- that pretty much happens in the games after martin give his life....in oblivion he become household name... Yes, I know Jaysus I was sitting here thinking that someone might try to compare 300 to Shakespeare speeches wise. For those who know thy author, have read Henry V or at least read a little about Agincourt. The inspiration speech of scene 3 in Henry V there standing at the gates of hell itself. Martin, address the troops... It would beautiful, in its own right. Its rather sad that most do not know of Shakespeare works... "sigh"
XanAlderon
I doubt most of Oblivions intended audience would understand the speach.
myrmaad
No Shakespeare in Oblivion! Do only what's been done in great movies ever since: steal the same story and tell it like its your own: Each of us, as we stand here, marked to die? then Cyrodiil loses! or if we're among the lucky who live, their glory is ours. By Akatosh, I would not lose a single man to this scourge, but though I can live without gold, I crave the honor of delivering this justice. Brothers in arms, if your heart is not in this war, if you don't feel this thirst for glory, if your stomach is not in this, go home. I'll provide your horse. By Akatosh, this day will be forever remembered. Celebrated. And we'll not have it dishonored; we, who are blessed to fight this war, will forever be the envy of men, that they weren't here to fight and die with us! Now let's rock these mothers! Stampede
I did not find his speech any more or less inspiring than the speeches from LOTR or Braveheart. That whole thing is pretty cliched now.
XanAlderon
I wasn't really paying any attention to the speech, I was preparing myself for the battle on full difficulty
myrmaad
It was forgettable, but hey I didn't care, my character was pretty much in love with Martin by then and would have done anything for him. I had bought into the role completely.
XanAlderon
I never much liked Martin, in fact I used to kill him after every mission.
