casdegere
Hey, I just wanted to chime in with what appears to have worked for me. I can not guarantee this will work for everyone and I do not know if this was already brought up. Things I did: 1)a) Removed all excess codecs. I uninstalled all 3rd party codecs and installed the latest Vista codec bundle. (These can be had in a number of various places online) b)I also DISABLED all Creative codecs that come with my X-Fi sound that came with my mobo. c) I did the ffdshow fixes involving video and audio. Adding Fallout3.exe to each of them. 2) using: msconfig, I did a select reboot, with all system services disabled. 3) I unsinstalled: ASUS GamerOSD, ASUS Smartdoctor and ASUS video security. [Note: No other game I have loaded needed this kind of attention. Bethesda really didnt do their job to troubleshoot these problems before release] 4) Reinstalled the newest NVidia video driver and rechecked my installation of Direct X. 5) Changed my resolution to 1280 X 800, the games resolution set itself at 900 X 600 using the 16:10 video size. REBOOTED a last time. I will add that my mobo is a newer ASUS Formula 2 Max mobo and that my vid card is a Nvidia GTX260. Right after I rebooted after all of this, I saw black screen again and for a split second all my hopes were ground to dust...but then...the music, the tilted radio, the glory that is Fallout became a reality. Uzibeatle
I like stories like this. What a journey . Thanks for posting that saga. It might help serve as inspiration for some future diagnostic frenzy by others. Well documented sir, Kudos.
