Hex editing save files?

I've checked the FAQ and I didn't see anything about this, so I hope this is okay. I'm not talking about unofficial mods, though, this is just giving items that already exist in the game to a character at the start of the game, say, the Vault 101 exit. I am able to transfer saves to/from my X360, and I was wondering if anyone skilled with a hex editor could modify a save for me. What I'm looking for are extra caps, pins, stims, and maybe ammo. I've tried editing the save myself for days, and I've accomplished nothing. I'm not even sure if this is possible. :( I've read some too and I guess you have to replace existing items in the inventory?
