My first mod.

I'm making my first mod! Well..my first proper mod anyway.

So far all I've done is create a handful of little mods to get the hang of things. A generic custom follower, a small house, that sort of thing.

This mod is much more ambitious, I want to make a quest, after the end of which the questgiver can become a follower. BUT WAIT THERES MORE. A custom (small_ dungeon too? Hark! A great modder here.

However, seeing as I am terrible at modding, I thought I'd ask for a little help here when I'm stumped, I'm going to use this one thread for them all rather than spamming the forum.

Thus far, these are my problems:

1. Custom npc, when I attempt to change his complexion, only the head changes, not the whole body.

2. Outfit for the npc. I made him a custom outfit, but for some reason he still spawns naked. If I kill him, the armor isn't on his dead body.

3. The custom npc really seems to hate horses, he attacks them for no reason, luckily being Skyrim horses they stomp him apart.

1. You can't edit the body separately? Except for the body weight, if that's what you meant.

2. Did you place the outfit in his/her inventory? Also, try using "Disable" + "Enable" commands on him to make him/her respawn. (And thus have the armor on)

3. Faction issue? Make sure he/she belongs to same factions as player character does.

First Problem > edit your character, then, in the object window, highlight all the NPCs you edited (Ctrl+click,) then Ctrl+F4. You'll get a prompt to export the characters' facegens. That's freaking right, the game has special files for each NPC. Anyway, once you do that it'll be all set.

Make sure you are in the Actors tab if you are on "all" tab it wont work, double click and make sure "Is CharGen Preset" is off (unchecked) then click ok, select your npc and hit ctrl+F4, then you can go to \Data\textures\actors\character\FaceGenData\FaceTint\(yourmodname) and you can find the textures there, go ingame and test.

those are quotes from another site no idea if that will actually work.

Second Problem > http://www.creationkit.com/ArmorAddon

Third Problem > No idea sorry haha...BUT if you make the NPC use the same faction as the horses in the game it might help.

Hope this helps!

Problem one and three are dealt with! Thanks guys!

I'm still having issues with problem 2 though. I've created the outfit and the armor addons fine. The armor also appears on him while I'm editing in CK, however in game he is still naked, very odd indeed.

Also, do you have any tips for navmeshing in an outside area?

Oh, I wholly forgot.

You can actually change the body to something completely different, but that means you'd need to make wholly new race for your follower, which might be hard, but quite worth it if you put some effort in it.

But I wouldn't try it as a beginner. ( I think with my experience I could hardly pull it together myself, and it would still have some problems.)

Make sure that the armor is enabled on her race, check the inventory of his/her.

Your problem with the outfit may be the one I had when I switched from Oblivion to Skyrim mods. In Oblivion Creation Kit, if you dropped the items in the inventory, they would automatically wear the best items in their inventory. In Skyrim you actually have to create an "Outfit" in the Object Window under Items -> Outfit. After you create an outfit template, you can assign the outfit to him as his "waking" outfit under the NPC's base object window.

Hey guys! Making progress, but I have a few more questions:

1. I've placed an npc in my new Dungeon...but he doesn't spawn! When I explore the dungeon in game he isn't there. Weird, right?

2. How do I make an npc initally approach the player, say some dialogue, then attack?

3. How do I make an npc have the wounded animation, say some dialogue to the player, then die (a different npc to the attacker)

1. > Have you put any navmesh down? Nothing will spawn if you haven't.

Going to Navmesh > Generate > Recast Based

will create a broken navmesh for your cell but you'll be able to spawn npc's in it. Or you can just set down some fast hand navmesh.

Thanks, yeah, that fixed it. Still have these two problems:

2. How do I make an npc initally approach the player, say some dialogue, then attack?

3. How do I make an npc have the wounded animation, say some dialogue to the player, then die (a different npc to the attacker)

Also new issues- I have a custom armor set, the player can wear it fine, but when they take it off it doesn't havok, but just floats in the air. Also, how do I get a door to bar from the inside?
