Deleted1707346User
My issue with the other dragon riding mods out there is that they try and treat dragons like horses that can fly. This shouldn't be the case. Anyone who has read ASOIAF by George RR Martin (spoiler alert) will remember his description of Denaries riding the black one (forget the name). When she was riding him, she was pretty much travelling at the wim of the dragon, not steering it like a horse. It should be like this in Skyrim. You should start riding by using the rend dragon shout to bring it down then another to calm it. Once its calm you can mount it and then it will take off.The dragon's flight will be done mainly with AI. Using SKSE I assume, you would bind a key for left, right and land. Each time you press one of these keys the dragon has a 1/10 chance of obeying (gets better over time). If you successfully perform the check the dragon's will turn a random amount in the direction you specified using the default animations for dragon turning, it may not happen immediately after pressing the button, basically it would happen the moment the current animation ended so you would hopefully get a smooth transition. For the land command, you would just use the rend dragon script again and bind it to a key, the dragon will find it's way to the ground on its own.The key element in all of this is that the dragon has 'free will' the entire time repeated button presses would get the dragon annoyed and eventually force them to land and start attacking you. The dragon would also have a chance of ignoring everything you say and just start attacking random mobs with you on it's back. If anyone would like to try and make this a thing I would be eternally grateful and I'll try and help in any way I can. I would love to be able to make this mod but so far all I have done is make a few player houses with basic scripts (and they weren't very good). Could someone point me in the right direction for a tutorial that would cover this kind of thing?
