Strange model problems.

I've attached the mod so far.

I don't know whats going on. The helmet looks fine in Nifskope.. but when it's in the game. BOOM polygon explosion. :wallbash:

Might it have something to do with normals?

Any help would be appreciated. Once I can get it into the game, I can finish the art.

It will be wicked looking.

the code for the item is 00e171e9

:thanks:

one quick question, did you replace a model or just make this from scratch...

number 2, your model wont load up in nifskope at all... and i cant get it to inport into blender, but it seems to be a problem with your verticies...

heres a pic for some people to show the error

Attached is one that opens in Nifskope, but crashes in game.

I replaced the power helmet with an obj I made.

Thanks for looking at it man.. All this hacking away at stuff is making me crazy.

The only 3D package I know is lightwave.

Did you import an object file (.obj) directly into NifSkope or did you first make a new .nif file using your 3D modelling program and then copy/replace the old NiStripsData entry in NifSkope?

Edit: Eh, nevermind, just downloaded the files. That'll teach me to do that first next time. :)

Edit2: Seems just equipping the item completely locks up my F3.

The obj is right from lightwave and into nifskope via import.

Hmm... Well I was going to suggest you exported from Lightwave directly to .nif but it seems you need a specialized software package to do that.

I'm no expert on this subject, so I can only share what little experience I have on a very low level basis. I've been mucking about replacing the barrel for the Minigun and couldn't for the life of me get it to replace the part I wanted if I imported the .obj directly into NifScope - every time I tried it out ingame it crashed like there was no tomorrow. After making a separate .nif of the model I wanted to replace the original barrel model with, and replaced it using the copy block/paste block method described elsewhere on this forum, it worked. Don't ask me how though, could just have been a freak streak of luck though as I have not done any replacement work besides that. What I'm thinking is that when you import a model straight from .obj it somehow doesn't get "stripped" proper in order to function and maintain its shape ingame compared to exporting the model as .nif - I could be completely wrong on this though, and someone with more experience could probaly confirm or debunk this theory.

I'm actually a bit curious myself about this subject now - does direct .obj import work at all, or should you always export as .nif and copy/replace NiTriStrips/ShapeData?

Oh the joys of newbie modding. :D
