Revolver Freak

I've been bitching too much lately about this but if I posted this in other threads I might as well post it here too.

I think there are too many requests for magnum handguns.

Now as far as do-ability revolvers in general are pretty high on the list. There is an animation for a hinge-open revolver which could be used for the Trigun and the Mateba could use the scoped .44 animations as well. Modeling, texturing and putting them into the game are all possible, really the only hurdle is the animations which as I mentioned are very workable.

Vash is working on the trigun, the problem is that the axis of the hinging animation for the .32 revolver doesn't line up at all with the Trigun. Which totally effing sucks.

Oh, and I'm really sick of people leghumping Matebas. They are overly expensive weird and terribly disadvantaged firearms. All the disadvantages of both a revolver and a semiauto rolled into one weapon, yet because it makes appearances in cartoons everyone loves the damn thing.

It makes no sense to me, at all.

I think it's the one-of-a-kind thing. It's rare, it's different, thus it has a fan club. Same thing with cars that flopped; just about every failed car model has it's own fan club too (like Edsels and VW Things).

By the way, the Mateba is not the only semi-automatic revolver, Webley and Scott beat them to it in 1901 with the Fosbery.

It was also a top-break, just like the Mateba (and the Smith & Wesson Schofield).

You know, if they've got Abe Lincoln's repeater I think we should have a revolver from the same era like the Schofield...

Well, my impression so far is that you don't align the animation with the revolver, you line your revolver with the animation. Because the player's skeleton animations _will_ take control of your parts, and not only for hinges, but also for coordinates. Especially when you think you got it right in first person, it looks like a** in third person because the skeleton animations moved your parts around.

That said, there are _some_ limited workarounds, like moving the centre of the mesh since that's what the animations will latch on.

Looking at the trigun photo, it looks actually pretty doable. Might need moving the hinge a bit, but otherwise it looks doable. I'm curious what problems Vashts has there, except maybe perfectionism.

Vash said something to that effect. As I understand it, the problem is that once the animation is matched up properly, the gun's grip and the character's hand are nowhere near lining up.

They couldn't possibly be serious about it.

Back to one of my ideas. Is it possible to make any kind of holster for a gun, now that's GECK is out?
