dhanson94
I apologize if this has been asked before but I have been off and on trying to troubleshoot this problem myself for the last two days but I just can't do it. I'm sure this will be a super simple answer that's going to make me look like I have the intelligence level of a 5 year old but ANYWAYS...I'm new to the GECK and I'm trying to create a unique Hunting Rifle with different stats and a new texture. I've figured out how to change the stats and I've made my new texture but whenever I'm in the GECK and I try to save my newly created weapon I go to my FO3 directory and none of my '.bsa' files show up in the save menu in the GECK. If anyone will help me that would be great.
prensa
dhanson94 - Hello! "but whenever I'm in the GECK and I try to save my newly created weapon I go to my FO3 directory and none of my '.bsa' files show up in the save menu in the GECK." The GECK will save .esp files not .bsa's. A .bsa is a special Bethesda Archive that contains files like textures, meshes etc.. What the GECK save are .esp's which are the data storing plugins that you can tick in Fallout 3's data files selector or (better) a mod manager like FOMM & NMM. When you've made your changes in GECK for the first time you go to File & save changes to your mod at which you also name. Whenever you work on that mod again in GECK, you go to File - Data, higlight your mod & "Set as active file". Once saved, your .esp should show up in your Fallout 3/Data folder. A copy will also be saved as a backup into your Fallout 3\Data\Backup folder with a number & .bak stuck on the end of the file name. If you do that & it appears to save but does not show up in that location, are you running Vista or Win7? If so & your Fallout 3 is in the Program files folder then it's probably down to redirection. Windows redirects saving files by "unauthorised" programs in sensitive areas. The file will appear to save but is in fact placed elsewhere. To get around these you either need to change the security settings in there or launch GECK as administrator, right click on GECK & select "Run as administrator". You should then be able to save into the data folder with GECK. Hope this helps! Prensa
