ripple
Both in Whiterun, both have been widely reported. 1) Belethor's blank inventory: at some point in the game, when you try to trade with Belethor, both his inventory window and your character's inventory window will be completely empty. You will not be able to buy or sell anything to him. In my game, this bug occurred immediately after I brawled with him as part of a Companions quest. Jake Ryan's 'Belethor Fix' provide a 'work around' to enable Belethor to display his inventory again, but the merchant inventory will never refresh no matter how many days pass (which of course includes his gold), primarily because of how Jake went about doing the 'work around'.... I've checked his AI package, the General Store cell, his merchant container, the faction data that enables his vendor functions. Nothing particularly amiss. 2) Carlotta Valentia and her daughter stuck: at some point in the game, Carlotta Valentia and her daughter will become stuck somewhere in Whiterun. They will not execute their AI packages. 'Bumping' them will not fix the issue. In my game, this occurred after Carlotta followed me into Breezehome (many NPCs have 'followed' my character through cells, especially Breezehome since the front door is so close to the street, but she is the only one who got 'stuck' in the street immediately afterwards). Since Carlotta's daughter's AI package basically amounts to following her around all day, she's stuck too. Others have reported that it occurred to them after they completed her 'man trouble' quest. I've seen no other NPCs 'get stuck.' The only way to fix this is to kill/resurrect Carlotta (resetAI will not do it), or simply do something that will trigger her to initiate new AI behaviour, like attacking her (with weapons or shout), spawning a monster beside her, etc. As far as I can tell, the issue is not related to her AI packages, but the fact that she isn't executing them. I've become a bit obsessed with finding out what causes the bugs to begin with. If anyone has any ideas.... stars2heaven
I have no ideas, and I have never seen this bug happen with these NPCs, but I have seen this happen to another NPC in my game. It is one of the children in Riverrun. I forget his name, but he just stands there day and night. He will talk to you, and you can push him around, but he will always return to the same spot. ripple
I have no ideas, and I have never seen this bug happen with these NPCs, but I have seen this happen to another NPC in my game. It is one of the children in Riverrun. I forget his name, but he just stands there day and night. He will talk to you, and you can push him around, but he will always return to the same spot. The whole 'NPC stuck' thing might be random. Although in my case, I can push Carlotta and her daughter from one end of Whiterun to another, but they will never move on their own, so we might be seeing different though perhaps related bugs. RAI is horrible at handling mobs, which is why previous Bethesda titles since Oblivion have suffered from a depopulation problem...entire cities inhabited by a handful of people, because the developers don't want players to see RAI's inadequacies. The bug that I've been obsessing about for the last 2 days is the Belethor one. I know not everyone experience it but apparently enough people do that someone attempted to make a fix for it, which is really just a 'work around' because he simply assigned vendor function to another faction that Belethor belong to. The result is residual problems like Belethor's merchant inventory not refreshing--although I don't quite understand why it wouldn't is spite of the fact he used a different faction, and therein lies the 'mystery.' I've poured over my plugins in TES5Edit and see nothing that edits Belethor, his AI packages, the faction attached to his vendor functions, his vendor container, or the Whiterun general store cell. If this bug is attributed to a mod, then I can only suspect that it's script related. I am using 'Economics of Skyrim', but I would think if that was causing this, a lot of people would have already reported it to the mod author. twinsens
in my previous game I had the same issue with Carlotta and her daughter (The first standing somewhere on the steps near her stall and the daughter about ten feet away, also never moving.) Belethor always dies in some vampire attack for me, never brawled him either, haven't seen the dialog or inventory bugs with him. (I reverse pick pocketed a dawnguard war-axe and some scrolls onto him this time, lets see how he fares =S)
jefftsster
I have run into exactly the same problem, but it is with all vendors and merchants. My inventory is blank only when i interact with a mercant. Theirs is empty as well. I cant very well play anymore until i can figure something out if i can't buy or sell. This is very frustrating.
JobVanDam
One thing I've noticed over a long period of time is bards will stop playing music. One thing I did to fix it is set a flag on them to Respawn. Now in my game all non-quest NPC's have been set to Respawn, I'm level 50 and haven't encountered any issues as a result of this. One thing I noticed with my last playthrough is certain NPC's if set to respawn mid game after I completed a quest with them wouldn't respawn though. Try setting Carlotta and Belethor to respawn. - Try changing Carlotta's packages to just a generic Sandbox package. - Another thing is try using the console commands disable/enable - Try using Skyrim Save Cleaner. In my game dragons at word walls just become all kinds of messed up and using the save cleaner fixes them, temporarily anyway. - Try using the console command "resetinterior <cellid>" for Belethor's shop - Try sleeping in Breezehome for 30 days so everything outside resets I'm just suggesting stuff I've tried to fix issues in the past. ripple
You people are really accomplished necromancers. How you manage to necro a thread almost 2 years old is beyond me. Since I am the one who started the thread, I should note that a month or two after my initial post in this thread, I uninstalled a number of mods, started a new game, and have never encountered either of those two bugs again. Two mods among those I uninstalled were 'Economics of Skyrim' and 'Populated Cities', which I suspect to be implicated in the Belethor bug and the Carlotta AI issue I noted, respectively. Both of those mods are now more or less 'abandoned' by their authors. Edited May 16, 2014 by ripple
JobVanDam
I was just trying to help, I don't read dates. I read text. It's jefftsster's fault. He's the one who necro'd and this is like the third time I've done this too, started replying to old ass threads and comments. Us Canadians aren't the sharpest knives the draw, I'll admit to that. In my defense, when someone with special needs jumps off a bridge do you blame the special needs kid? Or do you blame the guy who told him to jump off? Ellderon
I ran into the Belethor problem too. IIRC, I think it popped out after I tied the "dawn of Whiterun" or "Bigger Whiterun". Anywhoo, I guess killing and resurrecting him might fix it. Haven't really tried it yet.
