IAvalonI
I appreciate your help, but it hasn't worked I have un and then re installed the game completely... no change at all..I have also tried just installing Oblivion itself (CD 1: GotY) Still nothing... I guess its my entire game fully messed up.. Do i have to buy it again??? Right now I'm downloading a new BIOS and a new NVidia driver upgrade, with the faintest of hope it might change something...
bben46
If it worked before, the problem is not in your BIOS or video drivers. Unless there is some physical damage to your installation disk you should not have to buy a new copy. When you use the uninstall, it does not uninstall everything. It leaves a lot behind that you have to either remove manually or move to another folder. Then when you do reinstall, do not add the mods back in until you know the game works. Then don't add a bunch at once. just a few so you can see which ones cause problems.
IAvalonI
You're right, the BIOS and the video upgrade haven't done anything... In order to find out what the culprit is, I had actually deleted everything, every mod, and anything even to do with oblivion..But after reinstall of ONLY the main Oblivion game (esm) it still didn't work.. So, there might be something wrong with my disk.. :wallbash: Would I then have to buy a fresh game?
bben46
If there is something wrong with the disk, then it should give a fault message when you install. Look at the disk (shiny side) and see if there are ant scratches. I know you have uninstalled and reinstalled, but check my procedure (In an earlier post) and see if there is something you missed - most likely the registry cleaning part. The registry is in a completely different part of your hard drive, and includes information on every program loaded on the computer, not just Oblivion. Deleting the entire registry will make your computer unusable, so if you have a corrupted registry entry, you will need to clean it using a registry cleaning program such as the ccleaner program I recommended. roquefort
Just an addendum (and I loved those "ant scratches" BTW); the free Revo uninstaller gets rid of most of the registry and other clutter that the Windows uninstaller leaves behind. It's well worth getting and using in preference. http://www.revouninstaller.com/
bben46
I have used Revo before, A great program. I haven't tried it on Oblivion though. Sorry about the typo (ant scratches) should have been any scratches. Damn ants.

Sorry about the typo (ant scratches) should have been any scratches. Damn ants.Hmm. Well since I last posted I did in fact use Revo on Oblivion, having screwed the game by messing with textures rather too recklessly. It still left a lot of files and other junk (not just empty folders) that had to be cleared with a registry cleaner (Eusing's). Oblivion is the only prog I've had to do that with after uninstalling with Revo, which is slightly puzzling.

roquefort
Good info. I will keep that on file for reference.ThanksWell if you're doing that, a little further info is in order. Revo stalled while trying to uninstall Oblivion, with repetitive drive-whirring that I stopped in the end with the task manager. No harm done though. Just had to remove clutter and reinstall, with no further problems. Oblivion is fine now (and I was thinking of retiring my PC anyway, so events forced a rebirth. Seasonably apt, I guess :D)
