Examining Containers => Crash

So I came back to New Vegas after burning out on Skyrim, and the game was extremely laggy. I eventually solved most of the lag, but whenever I open a container, the game will freeze after browsing its contents for a few seconds. Are there any solutions available? I googled it and it appears that its been an issue in the past, but none of the recommendations seemed to have have fixed it yet.

I remember being told you must not use the the old d3d9 fix as it was made obsolete by a patch. I think that may be your problem. Try using the stutter remover instead and it should help you a lot.

So remove the file and try this instead. Hopefully it comes right for you.

I tried what you suggested. I removed the dll, and checked my NVSE version. My FPS didn't change too much, and my game still crashed seconds after opening a container. I have a 6800 series ATI Radeon card with 2GB of VRAM; I should be able to run this easily. Could it be the game save itself? The containers I am interfacing have only a few items in them, so I don't think it is lag from the amount of contents.

The only other thing I can think of is a bad mod, it sounds like maybe a bad item is generated in the box your opening? If it is any box then I don't know what it could be... perhaps a mod that edits loot like Project Nevada (Extra Options), if its nothing like that then I have no clue.

The only other thing I can suggest is running BOSS to see if your load order is correct...

And then to do some mod editing with FNVEdit to correct mod conflicts.

Found it! I disabled the NVEC.esm, and now I can interact with containers from mods, vanilla, and DLC, without issue. I suspected it since it was one of the few mods which I knew had a lot of content, most of which I had no idea about what it did. However, my FPS is pretty crummy since getting rid of the d3d9... I'm going to put it back in and see if I notice an improvement. Thanks for the help!

I am glad you figured it out.

Unfortunately, I found the source of my FPS woes. It seems its actually my save file that is doing it... I started a new character, using the ST Robot Race mod, and I found my FPS to be excellent. I then loaded my older save, using the DK custom Caucasian, the massive stutter is back... I wonder if there is a save scrubbing tool or if FNVEdit can help cleaning the save. I recently reinstalled the game, so I think it might me a missing mod or something. Any help would be welcome.

I can suggest going over this video and adding these mods may help. I use them and my game runs fine... but the robot scorpions lazer shots lag/stutter for me in the OWB DLC when shot at by them, not sure if a bug or normal.

Maybe just watching this vid may help you out, I don't know.

I used to use a mod like this for FO3, but haven't used it for NV, it may have been built into FOOK or FWE in the past, I can't remember so well.

That's about all I can think of. Hope your game comes right, I have heard that games lag and become corrupted over time. You may be experiencing that.
