Fallout Main Screen Crash

I'm on windows xp sp3 via bootcamp on a macbook pro. I installed vanilla Fallout 3 and it ran fine. I play with some mods and when I'm trying to use the Fellout mod the game starts to crash. Later I uninstall fallout 3 delete all the mods and re-install the game. However, now Fallout 3 vanilla wont even work. I get past the launch screen, and usually get about two intro slides in before the game crashes. Sometimes I'll get as far as clicking new game before it crashes however it does always crash. It doesn't say why it just asks if I want to send an error report. I don't know my way around windows well enough to troubleshoot problems so I'm lost and little frustrated. Thanks in advanced any assistance!

Honestly I have no clue why it started working again but it did. I tried a handful of fixes and read a few more that I didn't ry, so I'll list them here in the event that someone else is having the same problem.

Uninstall the game.

Go to the instal directory and make sure all mods that you may have installed are deleted by simply deleting the remaining files in the fallout 3 folder.

Delete the fallout.ini and falloutpref.ini located in C:\Documents and Settings\(User)\My Documents\My Games\Fallout3.

Use CCleaner or another similar freeware to clean your system.

Re-install the game.

Open the Fallout.ini file

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add this line after it

iNumHWThreads=2

There were a few other fixes that were specific to the windows 7 operating system.

Right click on the fallout.exe and click on properties.

Navigate to the compatibility window

check "run this program in compatibility mode for" and select windows xp sp3.

And one last fix.

1. Click Start

2. Click “All Programs” (or just Programs, depending on the version of Windows, whether they’re using “classic,” etc.)

3. Go to the ffdshow folder.

4. Click “Audio decoder configuration.”

5. In the left hand pane, click “Info & debug.” This is the second entry in the list.

6. In the right hand pane, near the bottom, find a check box labelled “Don’t use ffdshow in:”

7. Check that box, and in the text box underneath (it lights up when you check the check box), add “fallout3.exe” (don’t include the quotes). If there is already something in that box, put a semi-colon ( ; ) after what’s already there, and fallout3.exe after that. Do NOT use spaces, since ffdshow will think that’s part of the filename. A valid entry would be “explorer.exe;fallout3.exe” (without quotes).

8. Finally, click “Ok” and start Fallout 3.
