Game Freezing When Turning/Moving

Hi guys,

 

I purchased the Fallout 3 GOTY Edition via Steam and I'm running the Nexus Mod Manager along with a few mods and FOSE.

 

My load order is as follows:

The game loads up fine, but occasionally the game will freeze and I'm unable to do anything but CTRL-ALT-DEL and end the task. At the moment, I've only been able to get as far as the main door of the game (where you press the button for the big wheel vault door to slide across) and it freezes. Never at the same point, but between coming out of the door to the big room and pressing that button, it freezes.

 

It's done it most of the way through the start of the game so far, but I've managed to get past it by loading the save back up and continuing - but nothing I try can get me any further.

 

Is there something in my load order that is causing the issue?

 

My graphics card drivers are up to date and I have a card more than capable of running this on ultra graphics settings (i7 Processor, 2GB GeForce 560M GTX, 8GB RAM) so I know it's not that.

 

Any ideas?

Freezing is almost always the Fallout 3 multi core bug.

 

Symptoms are the game freezes mainly in small interiors, locking up completely.

 

Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading.

 

There is a fix, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file.

 

The one you want to change is:

 

For XP:

 

My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\

 

For Vista & Win7:

 

Documents\My Games\Fallout3

 

The file you want will be called:

 

FALLOUT.ini

 

Open the .ini with Notepad & change this line:

 

bUseThreadedAI=0

 

to:

 

bUseThreadedAI=1

 

& insert this line under it:

 

iNumHWThreads=2

 

Save & close your ini.
