Alithinos
Hi. I have to say that we have seen great work until now with the HD texture packs, and some I might say go even beyond what's necessary, like 8k resolutions!!Considering most standard modern games have either 512 or 1024 texture resolutions,I can say that we are covered in the textures department, for at least a few years! And thankfully I see that now more and more good mods are coming out that deal with lighting.I believe by the Summer we will have enough very good mods for lighting too to choose from. But while all textures seem to be so more advanced and modern and lighting seems to be catching up,there are some other things in the vanilla game that aren't so good, and that with the current state of textures and lighting, these other things now seem even more exaggerated. One of them is the meshes of course.Too pointy and edgy. Those rocks and some buildings... Stick out very much! I of course follow this mod, named Static Mesh Improvement, and I give Kudos to the maker, and I hope he completes more meshes fast! But I'd like to suggest to other modders to get involved with better quality meshes too. Skyrim just have so many things that I think we understand that for all of them to be done by one person is a huge and daunting task. So perhaps we could start seeing more mods that add more polygons to the existing 3d models of the game ? Another graphics-thing that we should see more in the near future is also animations. Thankfully the attack animations of both players and creatures are much better than Oblivion's. Now let me make something clear: I have seen and know of that there are many mods adding new animations in the game, especially "sexy" ones for female characters. And also for most of them you have to activate them yourself to work. What I'm suggesting here is something different. I suggest that it would be nice to have animations that play by themselves, and are for things that should already have their own animations but they don't. One thing is hair animations. So they don't feel like they are made out of plastic and glued on the character's head. Another thing is cloth animation,so it doesn't feel like it's a single piece of plastic either. Another thing that I'd really like to see is facial animations,to see NPCs having feelings,to have face muscles. If you remember Oblivion,it had some basic animations for the faces, one for each feeling. Sadness,Anger,Happiness,Surprise,etc.. While the face parts and textures of Oblivion's faces where ugly, the faces had animation. It seems so awkward that in Skyrim the only animations faces seem to have is lip-sync and eye blinking,it brings me Uncanny Valley feelings and breaks my immersion somewhat when I see them talk in various sentimental situations and always have the same look on their faces. Someone should address that. So here it is. I wanted to discuss the future of graphics mods with you,and what kind of graphic-related mods you think should start showing up more in the future. This idea came to me as I was looking for once more those pics from the "that's what skyrim looks like with 100 mods",and in the images that showed things close up,the edgy low-poly models stroke my eyes, because their quality doesn't fit up with the quality of the other aspects of the game. What do you think ? Has modded Skyrim reached a very convenient state regarding its textures ? Should the modders keep working on more texture mods,or should we move on,to see other aspects of graphics getting more and better mods too ? nikko882
I agree with you in the point where the meches dosent really keep up with the textures and I would love to see more mods like that. Some animations also need a overhaul. But skyrim actually have facial animations (I think) but they have to be used more. Another kind of mods that are graphical/immersion mods are mods that gives more animations for things like: looting, player opening doors, pulling levers and so on. These animations are already in the game, but cannot be used by the player. The sad think is that I am playing on a 3 year old laptop, and so i dont get to download all these beatuiful mods... (along with my 100 other mods) -Nikko
