Sudden freezing...

i have a sneaking suspicion that the community unleveler might be to blame as I reverted to a save game before I dinged level 41 and all is fine. Ran past the same area with no problems what so ever.

Could that be the culprit? Leveling past level 40 unlocks different enemies to spawn perhaps?

 

I'm not sure if messing with the item leveled lists can cause problems, but messing with the creature spawning list can if it isn't done right or if there are conflicts. Without a bashed patch conflicts are almost guaranteed if you have more than one mod that alters the lists. But it's best not to guess. If your previous save works well make sure you hold on to it. Play around until your CTDs start again, I guess. If it's a mod causing a spawning issue you can disable the mod and the CTD should go away. If it doesn't that likely isn't your problem.

 

In fact, the tried and true method of tracking down these sorts of problem usually involve you disabling all of your mods, save for those necessary to load the save, and then see if the CTD is there. If it isn't, enable half of the remaining mods and check again and so on, until you have the CTD. Then remove mods until the CTD stops. Then slowly turn mods on one by one until it comes back. Usually the one you turn on that brings back the CTD is the culprit. That said, don't be too quick to judge. Sometimes you get false positives. If the CTDs stop, play for a while without the mod. If the CTD or freeze seems to have totally gone away, then the mod was likely your problem and you did not get a false positive.
